Christopher Daniel “Danny” Heffernan Sr.

Christopher Daniel “Danny” Heffernan Sr., of League City entered eternal life Saturday evening, January 29th, 2022. Danny, a lifetime devoted Catholic was born in Galveston, Texas on October 22, 1937.

He graduated from Kirwin High School in Galveston, Texas in 1955. He married his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Anastasia (Ann) Pucar on January 31, 1959. They shared 3 beautiful children together, and lived a wonderful life in Galveston, where Danny worked at Todd’s Shipyard, The Galveston County Sheriff’s Department, and Galveston County pre-trial release. Danny retired in 2000, when he and Ann moved to League City to be closer to their family. He served as Eucharistic Minister at The Cottages Alzheimer’s Home, and at St. Mary’s Catholic church where he volunteered as an usher and was a member of RCIA.

He was a hard-working and dedicated family man; gifted athlete; die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan; with an incredible sense of humor and an infectious smile. He could tell stories for hours, loved to read his books and always had a funny joke to tell or compliment to give to everyone he met. Danny was known as Uncle Danny to many and known as Bampa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Danny will be joining his beloved daughter, Suzanne “Susu” Gitschlag, parents, James Sr. and Florence Heffernan, brothers Jimmy, Jack, Dick and Larry, in-laws Frank and Melania Pucar and many others in Heaven. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Ann Heffernan; daughter Melinda Hanks (Oscar); son Christopher Daniel Heffernan Jr. “Danny” (Cami); son in law Greg Gitschlag, and his sisters, Eileen Townsend (Joe) and Kathleen Pero (Michael). He is also survived by his 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He will be incredibly missed by all those lucky enough to know him.

Visitation and mass for Danny will be on Friday, February 4, 2022, at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in League City. Danny will be laid to rest right next to his daughter, Susu in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Dickinson, Texas.

A celebration for Danny’s life will be held at Walter Hall Park indoor banquet facility 807 SH 3 N League City, Texas after the burial.

  6. My Bampa has gone to meet Jesus! Another piece of my already broken heart is gone to Heaven tonight too. I may have been your “#1” but you were always my “Daddy #2”! You called me your “#1” until the moments you took your last breath today and I will always be your “#1”! I am one lucky girl to have had 2 amazing father figures in my life who each showed me that they loved me in very different ways. This is how I know that God gave me you….he knew what he was doing long before I was born. I don’t know how we are supposed to live without you…the man who helped elevate me into the person I am today.
Being in your early 40’s (my age now) when I was born only gave us so many more years together and so many more
Special memories to create. And man did we have the best of times. You were such a big part of my upbringing and it’s hard to even think of a time your weren’t there. My birth, my baptism, Every birthday, school assembly, graduations, relationships, my wedding, the birth of my children and every other special moment in between.
You taught me so much about life and love shaping me into the woman and mother I am today. No one else can ever take your place in my life.
When Joey and I started dating 25 years ago, you gained a Grandson and my heart is so very grateful for the Love you showed him..filling so many voids in his life and making him feel special with your unconditional Love and understanding.
You said you would walk me down the isle at our wedding BUT only half way there because you “could never give me away” and I hold those words and carry them with me.
When Joey and I started our family, you were there for all our special moments. You got to meet all of my kids and be apart of their young lives and I am forever grateful that they got to meet you and see just how wonderful and special you were.
I’m glad you are now at peace in your Fathers arms…but I still want you here. I will love you forever and cherish every memory of you in my heart always. Until we meet again and I can rest my head upon your chest like I used to when I was little…whenever I hear a Patsy Cline song playing.…I will dance for you and remember the memories of all our days dancing in the living room together in the Galveston house! Every time I see the Dallas Cowboys symbol..I will know it’s YOU! Every time I close my eyes I will pray to God that I will see you again in Heaven one day. We are your Legacy you leave behind…you had an amazing life! I know that I held a very special place in your heart…. And now I have to figure out how to live without you.
    Love Always, Your #1

  7. Danny was a great friend and mentor. I had the pleasure of working with him when I began working at the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office. I learned a lot from him and will always remember him. I enjoyed playing shuffleboard with him, always for a quarter! When would see each other he would remind me that he still had my quarter.
Rest in peace sir, you will be missed but not forgotten.
