Carl W. “Bill” Sauer
Carl W. “Bill” Sauer, 92, a resident of Dickinson, Texas, went to his heavenly home on Sunday, January 18, 2026. After spending over 3 weeks in the hospital, Bill was able to return to his home on Hospice care. Bill was born in Houston, Texas on May 24, 1933, to parents Carl William Sauer and Vivian Taylor Sauer.
Bill graduated from Texas A&M in 1955. While at Texas A&M, he met the love of his life, Barbara, when she was visiting College Station for a Walther Lutheran student conference. Bill and Barbara married the same year on December 26, 1955. In 1956, Bill was called to active duty in the Air Force, and they relocated to Japan where Kyle was born in 1957. When Bill’s tour was completed in 1958, they moved to Dickinson, Texas where Slater was born six years later, in 1964. In 1965, Bill was transferred to Egypt for his job, so they moved to Maadi, Egypt for two years and then moved back (earlier than expected) to Dickinson because of the Six-Day War. Nine years later, their daughter Angela was born in 1976. Bill and Barbara were married for 67 years.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (lovingly called “Big Daddy” by his grandkids.) He loved his family dearly. Bill and Barbara were charter members of Hope Lutheran Church in Friendswood in 1963 and later joined Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson. Bill was active at Faith and was the church president during one of Faith’s expansion projects. In his early days, Bill was an excellent baseball player (softball player in his Brown & Root days) and basketball player. He loved to hunt, play golf, and watch Aggie Football. Bill was a good man and lived a wonderful life, and he will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his son Kyle Sauer and wife, Anita of League City, TX; son Slater Sauer and wife, Carol of Friendswood, TX; daughter, Angela Van Arsdale of Cypress TX; five grandchildren, Lauren Dobson and husband, Trey, Ashlyn Sauer, Justin Sauer, Morgan Van Arsdale, and Tommy Van Arsdale; great-grandson Caleb Dobson, nephew Emmanuel Schwartz of Groves, TX; niece Stephanie Parma of Magnolia, TX; niece Barbara Yoas of Austin, TX; nephew John Starcke of Nashville, TN; sister-in-law Bea Sauer of Houston, and niece Amy Sauer of Whitethorn, CA.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Sauer, parents Carl and Vivian Sauer, brother Buddy Sauer, and grandson Beau Sauer.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Griswold caregivers and Spectrum Hospice for the care he received after he returned home.
A visitation will be held in Bill’s honor on Friday, January 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home, Dickinson. A celebration of life service is planned for Saturday, January 24, at 11:00am at Faith Lutheran Church in Dickinson with a brief gathering to follow. Bill’s interment will follow on Monday, January 26, at 11am at Forest Park East in League City.
Memorial contributions can be made to Faith Lutheran Church.
