Antonio “Tony” Rafael Nicolas

Antonio “Tony” Rafael Nicolas, 81, of Pearland, TX, was called home by his Lord and Savior on November 24, 2024. Born on October 31, 1943, in Santiago, Dominican Republic, he was the cherished son of Jose Manuel Nicolas Rodriguez and Nydia Antonia Bonilla Alix.

In 1966, Tony left his homeland to pursue higher education at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture in 1972. During this transformative time, he met and married his first wife, and together they welcomed twin boys.

Following his graduation, Tony returned to the Dominican Republic and embarked on a career in academia, teaching engineering, graphic design, and mathematics at Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. There, he also welcomed his third son. In 1979, Tony and his family moved to the Houston area, marking the beginning of his career in the U.S.

Tony contributed his expertise to several esteemed engineering firms, including Pan American and Kellogg Brown & Root, working on projects for NASA. It was during this time that he met Diane, the love of his life. They married in 1984 and built a beautiful life together.

After years of dedication, Tony and Diane retired from their careers in the NASA
community in 1999. Retirement brought them the freedom to explore the world, traveling
by plane, ship, and RV. Tony found immense joy in sharing these adventures with family
and friends, creating countless beautiful memories.

Tony was affectionately known as “PawPaw” by all the grandchildren that he adored.

Tony was a man of deep faith and celebrated his spirituality as a devoted member of St.
Andrews Episcopal Church in Pearland, TX. His kind spirit, love for life, and unwavering
faith touched all who knew him.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents Jose Manuel and Nydia, sisters Adalgisa
“Icha”, and Milagros, brothers Rafael “Chengue”, Ivan, Leonidas, Jose Manuel “Chemi”,
and Marcos.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Diane Nicolas; sons Jose Antonio Nicolas and
wife Cassandra, Juan Carlos “Charlie” Nicolas and wife Amanda, and Brian Philip
Nicolas and wife Kimberly; sister Elima; grandchildren Marissa Nicolas-Cagigal and
husband Ricardo, Jose Nicolas, Jr. and wife Faith, Genna Nicolas, Alexandra Nicolas,
Diego Nicolas, Tyler Garner, Cameron Garner, and Analyssa Nicolas.

There will be a Memorial service at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, December 6, 2024, at St.
Andrews Episcopal Church, 2535 Broadway Street Pearland, TX 77581, with Fr. David
Nelson officiating.

In Lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research
Hospital or Pearland’s Meals on Wheels.

Antonio “Tony” Rafael Nicolás, de 81 años, de Pearland, TX, fue a su encuentro con el Señor y Salvador el día 24 de noviembre de 2024. Nacido el 31 de octubre de 1943 en Santiago de los Caballeros, República Dominicana, fue el amado hijo de José Manuel Nicolás Rodríguez y Nydia Antonia Bonilla Alix.
En 1966, Antonio dejó su tierra natal para cursar estudios superiores en Howard University en Washington, D.C., donde obtuvo una Licenciatura en Arquitectura en 1972. Durante este período de transformación, conoció y se casó con su primera esposa, y juntos dieron la bienvenida a dos hijos gemelos.
Después de su graduación, Antonio regresó a la República Dominicana y se embarcó en una carrera académica, enseñando ingeniería, diseño gráfico y matemáticas en la Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra. Durante esa época, también dio la bienvenida a su tercer hijo. En 1979, Antonio y su familia se mudaron al área de Houston, lo que marcó el comienzo de su carrera en EE. UU.
Antonio aportó su experiencia a varias empresas de ingeniería de prestigio, incluyendo a Pan American y Kellogg Brown & Root, trabajando en proyectos para la NASA. Fue durante este tiempo que conoció a Diane, el amor de su vida. Se casaron en 1984 y construyeron una hermosa vida juntos.

Antonio encontró una inmensa alegría en compartir estas aventuras con familiares y amigos, creando innumerables recuerdos hermosos.

Antonio era un hombre de profunda fe y celebraba su espiritualidad como miembro devoto de la Iglesia Episcopal de St. Andrews en Pearland, TX. Su espíritu amable, amor por la vida y fe inquebrantable conmovieron a todos los que lo conocieron. Antonio es precedido en la muerte por sus padres José Manuel y Nydia, sus hermanas Adalgisa “Icha” y Milagros, sus hermanos Rafael “Chengue”, Iván, Leonidas, José Manuel “Chemi” y Marcos.
Le sobreviven su esposa de 40 años, Diane Nicolás; sus hijos José Antonio Nicolás y su esposa Cassandra, Juan Carlos “Charlie” Nicolás y su esposa Amanda, y Brian Philip Nicolás y su esposa Kimberly; su hermana Elima; sus nietos Marissa Nicolás-Cagigal y su esposo Ricardo, José Nicolás, Jr. y su esposa Faith, Genna Nicolás, Alexandra Nicolás, Diego Nicolás, Tyler Garner, Cameron Garner y Analyssa Nicolás.
Se llevará a cabo un servicio conmemorativo a las 11:00 a. m. el viernes 6 de diciembre de 2024 en la Iglesia Episcopal St. Andrews, 2535 Broadway Street Pearland, TX 77581, con el padre David Nelson oficiando.
En lugar de flores, se pueden realizar donaciones conmemorativas al St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital o a Meals on Wheels de Pearland.
