Ruth “Ruthie” Casals Atkison, was born on January 18, 1932 and passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026 at the age of 94. She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph Edward Casals and Rose Casals; son Calvin Atkison Jr; brother, Joseph Henry Casals; nephew, Joseph Edward Casals (Sonny). Ruthie is survived by her former spouse and good friend Calvin Atkison Sr. and niece Vicky Jo Casals of League City, Texas.

Ruthie grew up on Galveston Island and was a 1949 graduate of Ball High School. She had a passion for life, loved her friends and family and was known for her kind heart and generosity to family, neighbors, and friends. She dedicated her life to her son Calvin. During her long life she worked for several companies which afforded her the opportunity to sharpen her skills and become a top-notch bookkeeper all while raising her son and caring for her husband.

Ruthie had several pets throughout the years and loved them all, especially her cats. She enjoyed the summer days sitting on her patio watching her water fountains and listening to her wind chimes and loved gardening and watching game shows like The Price is Right, Family Feud and was an avid Basketball sports fan. She also loved shopping at the Dollar Stores and Goodwill and was always looking for bargains. But her favorite pastime was playing the Spider Solitaire card game on the computer that her son had installed for her enjoyment.

Her niece, Vicky Jo, would like to extend her heartfelt appreciation to Ruthie’s friends and neighbors who provided comfort, support and friendship to Ruthie through the years. And a special thanks to all the staff at Bayou Pines Care Center in La Marque, Texas.

A graveside service will be conducted at Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock, Texas on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 10:00 am by James Crowder Funeral Home La Marque, Texas and officiated by Msgr. James Anderson.

In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to any Animal Shelter or the Food Bank.
