Margaret “Peggy” Withers Wiseman

Margaret “Peggy” Withers Wiseman was born on July 12, 1934, and passed away on Friday, May 1, 2026 at the age of 91.

Peggy spent much of her childhood in Abingdon, Virginia, and High Point, North Carolina. She was the daughter of college professor Arthur Speece Withers and Bernice Ruth West Withers. From an early age, Peggy had a love of sports and was a member of her high school basketball team. She later attended Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she pursued a degree in education and discovered a love of music through her participation in the choir.

It was at Guilford that Peggy met the love of her life, Donald Guy Wiseman. The two were married on December 23, 1956, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted 55 years. In 1964, Peggy and Don moved to Dickinson, Texas, where Don worked with NASA’s Johnson Space Center program. There, Peggy dedicated herself to her family as a loving wife and mother.

Together, Peggy and Don raised four children: Joy Wiseman  Owen, Michael Bryan Wiseman, Laura Ann Cook, and James Daniel Wiseman. Their family life in Dickinson was filled with adventure, including many memorable RV camping trips. Peggy and Don also shared a passion for amateur radio, participating in both local and international ham radio communities. Peggy’s enthusiasm even took her to England, where she attended an annual meeting of the First Class CW Operators’ Club (FOC).

In later years, Peggy doted on her pet Boston Terrier, Donna (named after Don). This dog stayed with her through thick and thin, and brought mom a lot of joy and happiness. Donna currently resides with Jim and Pam.

Peggy is survived by her children: Joy; Michael and his partner, Judy Whaley; Laura and her husband, Shannon; and Jimmy and his wife, Pam. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kevin Cook and wife Niquita, Kelli Cook and her partner Deandre “DJ” Johns, and her great-grandchildren, Alexander Paul and Robert Leonidas Cook.

The Family will receive friends on Friday, May 15, 2026 from 5-8:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main, League City, Texas 77573. A graveside ceremony will follow on Saturday at 10:00am at Forest Park East Cemetery, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598 with Minister and friend Michael Welch presiding.

Peggy will be remembered for her warm smile and buoyant spirit. She found great joy in caring for her family and embracing life’s moments with enthusiasm and kindness. She had a gift for making friends wherever she went, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

  6. Peggy and my own mom passed within days of one another, and boy are they probably chatting it up in heaven! Comparing notes on their favorite Red Lobster entrees, talking up their kiddos, and more! I’m so glad the Lawson family knew Peggy through her daughter Joy, and we girls are blessed to have had such stellar moms to love and adore as they loved and adored us.

She was always up for a seafood dinner, savoring a glass of wine, and chatting about dogs, plants, and her many exciting adventures. Truly, she was a wonderful person.
