Born in Brady, Texas to Benigno and Esther Cortez as one of the 12 brothers and sisters in her family. Sisters; Aurora Sanchez, Carolina Cortez, Manuel Cortez, Victor Cortez, Lupita Aranjo, Ruby Boench, Hernan Cortez, Benigno Cortez, Jerry Cortez, Viola Gonzalez, and Mary Cortez.  She was married to Tomas Aguirre for 63 years.  Her children are, George Aguirre (Glenda), Esther Aguirre and Olivia Kristof (Keenan); grandchildren Joshua Little (Arlene), Dr. Jodi Brannen (William), Juanita Aguirre (Jose Macarrulla), Debbie Zepeda, David Zepeda, Angela Salazar (Jesus), and Cristine Brown (Tim); great grandchildren, Kirra & Jaxon Little, Liam & Wendy Brannen, Joaquin & Camila & Tomas Macarrulla, and Sofia Salazar.

Lucy is preceded in death by her husband, Tomas Aguirre and grandson David Zepeda.

Lucy was born and raised in Brady Texas where she met and Married Tom. Her father moved the family to Saginaw two weeks after her marriage.  Lucy and Tom tried to live in Saginaw because she greatly missed her family, but it was just too cold for them.  They moved back to Brady and eventually moved to Houston where they finished raising their family and watched it grow with the blessing of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lucy worked for Crespo Funeral home for several years but was mostly remembered as one of the “cracker dolls” of Nabisco.  She worked many years packaging saltine crackers and chips ahoy cookies at the bakery. She made many lifetime friends while working there and retired in 1991 to become a full-time grandma.

Lucy was a beautiful steward of the Lord.  During her lifetime she served the community in many ways.  She volunteered/coordinated Cursillo retreats, Led the Baptism team, became a Lector, and Eucharistic Minister serving St. Christopher’s Spanish speaking parishioners and the elderly in nursing homes.  She and her husband were recognized for their many years of service with the Good Shepherd award.

Lucy loved family.  Her mother ingrained family values in her children and Lucy lived as her mother taught her.  She tried to teach her family to stay together, support one another and make amends if any disagreements should arise.  She was always there for family.  No matter the need she would help if she could. She would take care of grandchildren, sick family members or family members down on their luck. She also loved to celebrate family.  She and her sisters shared a beautiful bond that would radiate when they were together.  Chipping in at weddings, funerals, and birthdays to make the celebration extra special.  The laughter they shared was truly infectious and definitely a beautiful memory.

There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St. Pearland, TX 77581. There will be a 10:00 a.m. mass on Thursday, January 27, 2022at St. Helen Catholic Church on Old Alvin Rd in Pearland. Burial to follow at Forest Park East in Webster, TX
