Robert Earl Fussell
Robert Earl Fussell passed away on October 30, 2026, in Pearland, Texas. He was born on January 5, 1944, in Conroe, Texas, to Robert and Lee Ola Fussell. He was the youngest of two children and grew up in East Texas. Robert graduated from Tarkington High School and attended Sam Houston State University. Robert was married to Audrey Fussell for over 53 years, and they had one daughter, Allison.
After several years working at jobs that varied as widely as a professional tree trimmer to a prison guard at the Ellis Unit in Huntsville, Robert found his niche in the field of petrochemical inspection. He worked as a Surveillance and Quality Control Inspector for petrochemical plants and equipment for over 45 years. He worked for Lindinger Inspection, C.F. Braun, Foster Wheeler, Jacobs Engineering, and did private consulting. Robert often said that as a young man he never knew what he wanted to do when he “grew up,” but that he was very pleased with the career that found him.
Robert adored being outdoors. His parents taught him to hunt and fish young, and that started a lifelong love of both activities. Countless weekends were spent with family and friends at various deer leases, hunting lodges, and fishing camps. He loved to hunt and fish almost as much as he enjoyed sitting around the campfire shooting the bull and telling stories. Robert was also very successful at shooting skeet and trap, consistently competing at the state and national level in the 70’s and early 80’s, winning numerous championships.
Robert was known for his strong work ethic, great sense of humor, addiction to crossword puzzles, and bothersome love of singing in the shower. His steadiness, quick wit, and storytelling will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter Allison, her husband, and one grandchild. As well as his sister, Jaynette Hollis, and his best friend of over 60 years, Larry Dever, along with other family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Lee Ola Fussell, and wife, Audrey Fussell.
A private service will be held at Bennett Cemetery in Apple Springs, Texas on November 4, 2026.
