  1. I have worked with your wife, Edith and now your daughter in Dickinson ISD and know the fondness of family, love, and togetherness within the Heilig family. May the many blessing and memories you have left with this family be a comfort to them.

  5. I’ve had the honor of working with John at NASA for over two decades. He was one of the best engineers and project managers I’ve ever known. He was a never-ending source of technical info and vast experience. The Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) experiment on the International Space Station has been a resounding success in large part because of John’s contributions. He had the same positive impact on every project he worked on and everyone he worked with around the world.

One thing John did even better than his chosen profession was being a truly wonderful person. He cared for his friends and colleagues like family and demonstrated it frequently. He never complained about the health issues he fought valiantly in recent years, all while asking how others were doing with theirs. His dry wit and sense of humor regularly brightened everyone’s day.

I hope John’s family can find peace and solace in knowing how much John was beloved by everyone that had the privilege to know him. My heart is breaking.

  7. Hi John,
    I will miss you.

Over the years we worked together on AMS, I’ve learned so much from you.
I was always touched by your calm, your smile, and your sense of humor that made everything easier and revealed the fantastic person you truly are.

I’ll carry a piece of you with me in every procedure I write, every schedule I work on, and every piece of space hardware I put together.

I don’t have the right words to comfort your family, but I hope they find peace knowing how much you meant to all of us.

    Grazie John,
    Corrado
