Merel “Dean” Joy

Merel “Dean” Joy, a four-year resident of Pearland, TX formally of Houston, TX passed away peacefully at his home December 10, 2017.  Dean was born April 20, 1935 in Moscow, KS to Loren and Ethel Joy. Dean served his country in the U.S. Army for three-years and received the Army Commendation Metal, Marksman Metal and Sharpshooter Metal. He retired in 1995 after working forty-two years for Schlumberger.

Dean was an honorable man, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Dean is preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Jesse Godschalk, Laura Belle Metts and Everlyn Martin; brothers: Claude Joy, William “Bud” Joy and Glenn Joy.

He leaves behind his wife of sixty-two years, Saundra Joy; daughters: Rhonda Trevino, husband Richard and Ginger Correa; son, Larry Joy, wife Christie; sister, Lorene Dunlap; brother Richard “Dick” Joy, wife Mary Ethyl; grandchildren: Crystal Helenberg, Ashley Pieper, Bryan Joy, Richard Trevino Jr., Stacia Joy, Andrea Kristen Trevino, Christopher Trevino, Devyn McBride, Charlie McBride, Kelly Koenig and Julia Scarbrough; fifteen great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 12 from 5-8pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Pearland. Funeral service will begin Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at 1 pm in the Chapel of Crowder Funeral Home. Burial to follow at South Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be: Bryan Joy, Richard Trevino Jr., Christopher Trevino, Joseph Pieper, Nicholas Alonzo, John Helenberg, Devyn McBride and Charlie McBride.

In lieu of flowers, family request memorials be made to: American Cancer Society.
