Elizabeth (Betsy) Jean Schutter
Elizabeth (Betsy) Jean Schutter, beloved wife of 35 years to Jeffrey Schutter, devoted mother of SSG Jeff Schutter Jr., Tami Melitos, and Jake Schutter, was called to Heaven on Monday, August 24, 2015 at the age of 54.
Born January 5, 1961 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Elmer and Christine Schlemmer, Betsy graduated from Madeira High School and after serving for almost 25 years as a devoted military wife, she and her husband settled in League City, Texas where she worked for both Clear Creek and Pearland Independent School Districts, before retiring in 2015.
She was supported and nurtured by dear friends, family, and students through her four year battle with cancer before being welcomed to Heaven. Welcoming Betsy to Heaven are her parents, Elmer and Christine, and sister Carol Williams.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, children, six grandchildren, brother Eddie Schlemmer and sisters Gail Sawyer, Sally Johnson and Terry Hans, extended family, friends, and co-workers.
The Family will receive friends on Thursday, August 27, 2015 from 6-9:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 East Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. A Grave Side Ceremony will follow on Friday at 11:30am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. In lieu of flowers, you may send memorials to MD Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 301439 Houston, Texas 77230-1439.
Betsy was a beautiful human being and one of the strongest people I have ever known. What earth has lost, heaven has gained. My thoughts, prayers and love go out to her wonderful family.
I know Betsy would say she had a “great” life here with her family. She has been blessed to have a family who loves her so much. And without a doubt, she loves her family as much as they love her. My heart goes out to you Jeff and your family, because based on my experience, you are never prepared for loss. Reflect on all the good times you had together…I’m sure that’s what she would want. Tracy is right, she was such a strong woman and what a great inspiration! Almost nothing could keep her from going to “Feast with the Beast”!

Betsy was a wonderful friend and colleague during their time in Copperas Cove. I have fond memories of the fun times we had . Betsy was a wonderful person and she will be missed by her family and friends. May God bless you during this difficult time. Love Elaine

I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to know Betsy. She was always kind and understanding when I came to her for questions, to update my information for my classes, or just a little visit. She will be dearly missed by all.
My daughter has attended Turner highschool as a freshman since the year they opened. My daughter formed a special bond with Mrs. Schutter. She talked to her often especially that first year. I lost my mother to cancer that December. I was concerned for my daughter and confided in Mrs. Schutter of our loss and asked if she could let me know if she had any concerns about my daughter. She was more than willing and was very kind to me. I didn’t know until then her own battle with cancer. I know how hard it is to lose a mother when they were too young to leave us. My mother was 59. My heart goes out to all of you especially her family during this time!! I will keep ya’ll in my prayers!! Thank you so much for being there for our kids. You were the smile that greeted them as they walked in first thing n the morning. You will be missed. My daughter, Madelynn, and myself have you, Jeff, and Sara in our thoughts and prayers. May the Lord surround you with His love and grace in this time of pain. Smile though in knowing she was loved by lots of people.
Thank you so much for the love and kindness that you so willingly gave to my daughter Bailee. She spoke of you often and said that your kind words and loving heart helped her through many difficult days at school. She said that you were like her “Mom” away from home. May God’s love and peace surround your family during this very painful time. You will be dearly missed.
