Douglas Allen Samuelson

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from 6-8pm on Friday, March 27, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 14054 Space Center Blvd. in Houston, 77062. The Funeral Service will commence at 10:30 in the morning on Saturday, March 28, at House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 14054 Space Center Blvd. in Houston, 77062.  Interment will follow at Mt Olivet, 7801 Gulf Freeway in Dickinson. Gifts in Doug’s memory may be directed to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network at www.pancan.org.

Douglas Allen Samuelson passed away Tuesday, the 24th of March 2015 surrounded by his family at home in Houston, Texas.  He was born on the 10th of December 1957 in Ashland, Wisconsin where his grandparents lived.  He was the oldest son of Roger Wayne and Audrey Ann (Harnois) Samuelson.  Doug and his four siblings grew up in Superior, Wisconsin where he graduated in 1976 from Superior High School.  He received his Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin River Falls in 1980 and his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1983.  After graduation he went on to practice law in the Houston area. On August 7, 1982 he was united in marriage with Judith Marie Sundstrom and to this union two children were born. Doug was a loving father who enjoyed coaching his children in sports when they were younger and cheering them on in all their endeavors as they were growing up.  He loved science fiction especially Star Trek. Doug had a passion for cruising and traveling that he  shared  with  his beautiful family .  He was  an  avid Minnesota Twins and Green Bay Packers fan. Doug was preceded in death by his father. Doug will be missed by his loving wife of 32 years, Judy; daughter, Rebecca and her husband Jordan Richmond; son Matthew; grandson Bennett Richmond; mother Audrey Samuelson; four siblings: Eileen (Jeff) Engels ,Glenn (Gail) Samuelson, Roselyn Samuelson, Terri (Bob) Carlson; nieces and nephews: Joe Samuelson,  Audrey Thoreson, Andrea Burlingame, Kirsten Engels, Katie Engels, Ashley Carlson; he is also survived by Judy’s four siblings: David (Itzel) Sundstrom, Barbara (Peter) Scheuter, Patricia (Ted) McGregor;  and their children: Adriana Mauer, Kera Franklin, David Sundstrom, Michelle Scheuter, Paul Scheuter, Natalie McGregor, Emma McGregor, Scott Sundstrom; other relatives and friends.

Doug, we pray that your positive attitude during your battle with cancer will be an inspiration to all.                       You will always be loved and missed.

  1. So sad to see this; My heartfelt sympathy to all of you Doug left behind here. I remember Doug well; we were classmates from Pattison Elementary all through high school. Last time I saw him was at a class reunion in Superior several years ago, and he spoke so lovingly and proudly of his family.

    He surely left this earth too soon. Rest in peace buddy, and may your spirit soar!

  2. I grew up next to the Samuelson family in Superior, WI during the 1960s. Doug was the born leader of all the neighborhood kids. We played all the great neighborhood games: Honko, baseball, football– you name it, we played it! I am not surprised that he became such a success. My condolences to all of the Samuelsons…
