Wyatt Layne McNamee

Wyatt Layne McNamee, age 9, passed away peacefully in the arms of his mother on Sunday, March 14, 2021 in League City, Texas.  Wyatt had bravely battled childhood asthma for a number of years before his passing.  He was born on February 22, 2012 and is the middle child with two other siblings; older sister Ava and younger brother Raylan.  Wyatt was currently a third grader at Ross Elementary School in League City.

In Wyatt’s brief life, he made an impact on all of his many extended family members and friends.  His true love was his mother Andrea.  As a toddler, he would pick flowers for his mom and deliver them with a song or a dance and always with a big smile.  He spent much time with his grandparents, Sandra and Dennis Petrie of Sugar Land, often helping his PaPa with small woodworking projects, or swimming in the local pool with his Gigi and brother and sister.  Wyatt was also able to fly with his grandpa in a small plane, even taking the controls for part of the flight.  In 2017 Wyatt’s family was transferred to Fort Drum in upstate New York.  Wyatt took immediately to the large forests on the base, building forts and catching frogs and snakes with his brother Raylan.  He was active in Cub Scouts and many other church activities.  Upon the family’s return to League City in 2019, Wyatt became a Little League baseball player and was training to be the team catcher.  Wyatt relished afternoon baseball games with his family and friends in attendance cheering him on.  Wyatt also dearly loved his godparents, Aunt Bonnie and Uncle Bill Eneix who were always in his life.

Shortly before his passing, Wyatt showed a passion for classical piano.  He would come home from school and go right to practicing on the piano.  He improved each week and just completed a song for his mother’s birthday.  He accompanied his mom to dinner and the Houston Symphony, who were playing Beethoven, his favorite composer.

In addition to his mother, siblings, grandparents, and his Aunt Marissa, Wyatt is survived by great grandparents Carmen and Richard Lopez of Texas City, father Shaun McNamee of Fort Bragg, N.C., and many extended family members.

A Visitation will be held from 5-9pm with a Rosary at 7pm on Friday, March 19th at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main Street, League City, Texas 77573.    Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday, March 20th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1612 East Walker Street, League City, Texas at 11:00 am.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Houston Symphony or the Asthma Association on behalf of Wyatt McNamee.

For those unable to attend in person, a video of the service will be available. The streaming link for the Ceremony will be updated on this page by 10:45am on Saturday, March 20, 2021.

  16. Wyatt will always have a special place in our hearts. The kids always had fun playing together whenever they played hide and seek, four square, predator or just hanging out. I will always remember seeing Wyatt taking out Max after school almost every day. He was such a bright light, easy to talk with and kind. Rest in peace, Wyatt. We will continue to lift up Andie, Ava, Raylan, his grandparents and all who love him. Evan, Camille, Dylan, Adrian and Lisa Eidelbach
