Wilson Hays Moore of League City, Texas passed away on Friday, September 11, 2026, in Pasadena, TX at the age of 78.

Hays was born on May 22, 1948 in Queen City, TX to Wilson Hays Moore Sr. and Anna Sue (Powell) Moore. He lived briefly in Corsicana and then moved to Waco where he graduated from Richfield High School. Hays was very athletic and played on both the Varsity Football and Varsity Basketball teams. 

One of Hays’s greatest loves was music. He had a beautiful tenor voice and sang in the Richfield Varsity Choir. He was selected to sing in the Texas Music Educators Association All-Regions and All-State Choirs. 

It was while singing in his church choir that Hays met the love of his life, Carol Ann Jinks. They were married on July 18, 1970 at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, TX.

Hays attended the University of Texas in Austin and toured Europe as a member of the University of Texas A Cappella Choir. He graduated with a Master of Science in Aerospace Engineering in 1972. 

Hays’s career as an aerospace engineer led him to work at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. for 7 years. Then he became a Senior Engineer and General Administrator at Johnson Space Center for 30+ years. During that time, Hays was instrumental in supporting the Hubble Space Telescope and most Space Shuttle missions. He received many honors and awards for his dedication, commitment, and excellent service to the Manned Space Flight Program. 

Among those honors, Hays was most proud of the Silver Snoopy Award, which is the Astronauts  Personal Achievement Award. He traveled to Florida where he was honored at an astronaut reception and watched a space shuttle launch from Cape Canaveral. 

Hays had a deep faith in God and spent many hours studying his Bible. He taught an adult Bible study class for 20 years. Every Sunday morning he would be found singing in his church choir. 

Hays loved God, his family and friends, animals, music, fried catfish, and the Arkansas Razorback football team! He was a quiet, kind man who never hesitated to compliment, encourage, and reaffirm others. Many have said that they loved to watch him sing because his joy and love for God showed on his face. 

Hays was preceded in death by his parents, Hays Sr. and Sue Moore, his sister Susan Lamb, and his brother-in-law James Lamb. 

Hays is survived by his loving wife Carol, daughter Amanda Mitchell, grandson Micah Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews. 

His family would like to thank the owners and caregivers at Light Heart Memory Care for the love and compassion they showed for Hays during his last days. 

A celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, October 3rd, at 11:00 AM at Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 16335 El Camino Real, Houston, TX
