Wanda Justice

Wanda E’Layne Hogue Justice, 90, passed away on June 2, 2018, in Houston, TX. She was born on January 8, 1928, in Beaumont, TX, to Charlie James Hogue and Valda Collier Hogue. Wanda is survived by a brother, Charlie James Hogue, Jr., and his wife, Peggy, and two sisters, Drusilla McClure, Hilda Simmons and her husband, Charles. Her surviving children are Debra Bellmyer, Renee Standley, Pamela Justice, and Mitch Justice, as well as grandchildren: Todd Peterson and wife, Selma, Kristina Hippman and husband Dan, Amanda Bellmyer, Christian Bellmyer and wife Julie, and Jordan Standley. Surviving great grandchildren are Preston Peterson, Ashley Peterson, Zoe Bellmyer, Noah Johnson, Truth Hippman, Ruby Bellmyer, and Lucien Bellmyer. Wanda’s first child, Shirley “Lee” Peterson, preceded her in death on May 9, 2018. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Milton T. “Jack” Justice, in 2005. In 1986, Wanda retired from Clear Creek ISD, where she taught art at Clear Lake High School and Webster Intermediate School. Previously, she taught art in Fort Bend ISD at Blue Ridge Elementary, and later at College of the Mainland. Wanda had a passion for music and the arts. In 1950, she earned a BA in fine arts from the University of Houston with a minor in music. Wanda studied the piano for 10 years in her youth, focusing on classical music, and becoming adept at playing songs in that musical genre. During her teaching career, she earned a M.Ed. in Art Education from Sam Houston State University. In addition to traditional fine art, Wanda taught crafts such as pottery making, jewelry casting in silver, macramé weaving, etc.; she also enjoyed sewing and quilting. The constant in Wanda’s life was her steadfast faith in Jesus Christ, which she exemplified in her daily life; she was a member of Christ’s Church Assembly of God in Clear Lake.
A memorial service was held on June 7, 2018, at Christ’s Church Assembly of God, in Houston, Tx. A burial service will be held on June 23rd at the Jones-Prairie Cemetery in Leggett, Tx.
