Stanley Arthur Duitscher
Stanley Arthur Duitscher, 92, a longtime resident of Galveston County, died June 21, 2025. He was a loving Dad and Grandpa that was always hard working and generous. Stanley was born July 1, 1932 during the Great Depression on the family farm north of Holmes, Iowa. He was the last of 10 children born to Arthur and Zella Duitscher. He moved to Clarion, Iowa with his parents in 1944. When Stan was a Jr. in High School his folks moved to McAllen, TX where Stan met his sweetheart, Eileen Brauen. Stan & Eileen were married in 1953 in Fort Riley, KS while in Army Basic Training. After serving in Korea for 15 months. Stan returned to Texas A&M and graduated as a Civil Engineer in 1957 on the GI Bill.
Stan’s Engineering career began in Victoria, TX as City Engineer in 1958. In 1960 he was hired by the City of La Marque, TX beginning as City Engineer and then City Manager, which included the time of Hurricane Carla in 1961. In 1966 Stan worked at Amoco Gas Pipeline division in Texas City where he was Project Engineer for a 70 – mile pipeline from Katy to Texas City. In 1974, Stan began his own Engineering and Surveying Company in La Marque, named D Engineers, Inc. He had the opportunity to design a series of bridges for Galveston Co and the diversion ditch around Hitchcock for the State Highway Dept. He also served on the Galveston Co Water Authority and Harris-Galveston County Subsidence Board and many other county projects. Stan and his crews worked tirelessly for 30 years, finally retiring at the age of 80. Stan designed and built 3 of his homes, in Victoria, La Marque and Dickinson. And he fought to have his ideas heard about the Galveston Ike Dike.
Stan’s favorite hobby was playing the stock market, up to his last days. He enjoyed hunting and camping, taking his family in a tent trailer all over the United States. Stan and Eileen were always active in church, being baptized Methodist and Baptist. They served as faithful Gideons for many years, giving and distributing Bibles in Galveston County and around the world.
Stan was an active member of the La Marque Rotary Club for 60 years. In 1978 he served as the District 5910 Governor. He led teams of Rotarians to Calcutta, India and to the Netherlands, also serving as a delegate at the Singapore Convention.
Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Eileen, his son-n-law David Scherer, his brother, Wendell, & his 8 sisters. Surviving Stan are his 4 daughters and 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Daughter Minda Scherer, Laith Scherer; Daughter Laura Foreman (Fred), Ryan Pedersen (Cristy), Courtney Babin (Jason), Camille Warren (Matt); Daughter Alisa Goss (Tojoe), Christina Henson (Jeff), Melissa Jentz (Henric), Jayme Butler (Devin); and Daughter Debra Bruce (Dan), Bethany Bruce, Jordan King (Jonathan) and Nathan Bruce (Clara). We will all miss him greatly and the big impact he made on our lives, but we are joyful to know he is with mom and all his heavenly family.
There will be a Celebration of Life on July 5, 2025 at Edgewater Church located at 1026 E. Main St. League City, TX 77573. Reception at 3, Service at 4:30. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gideons International Galveston Mainland Camp PO Box 84 La Marque, TX 77568. Stanley and Eileen Duitscher will be laid to rest at the Houston National Cemetery.
