Rose Melanie “Mel” Pennington

Rose Melanie “Mel” Pennington, loving wife, sister, and aunt passed away on January 22, 2024, at the age of 85.

Melanie was born July 30, 1938, in Galveston, Texas to William Goebel and Grace Cecile Cox.

Mel graduated Class of 1958 at La Marque High School and was a Dental Hygienist for Dr. Harris in La Marque.

Melanie was a devoted wife to Thomas Garland Pennington for 65 years.  They were longtime residents of Texas City, Texas.  She and her beloved husband moved to New Ulm, Texas later in life.  She was loved and adored by family and friends alike.

Mel had a deep passion for fishing, dog training, duck hunting and traveling with Tommy.  Later in life they had a deep love for their two cats, Pearl and Lovie.  Melanie loved life and still had aspirations and dreams of traveling.

Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Thomas G. Pennington, sister Susan Campbell, nieces Pamela Sue Longoria (Hector), Melanie Lynn “MIMI” Lucas (Sam), Catherine Diane Cox, nephews William Keith Campbell (Angela), Kenneth Wade Campbell (Trezlyn), numerous great nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, February 1, 2024 from 9:00am-10:00am at the Crowder Funeral Home. Funeral Service will follow at 10:00am at Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque with Deacon Steve Mistretta officiating.  A graveside service will be at Forest Park East Cemetery in Webster, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Ganze, Keith Ganze, Joseph Wade Campbell, Phillip Cannon, Louis Hunter and Garrett Hunter.  Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Affolter, Bert Dahl and Leo Wade Campbell.
