Roosevelt Owens

 Roosevelt Owens, a long-time resident of Dickinson, Texas and a native Texan passed away on August 6, 2026.

He was the son of Will Owens and Sallie Dosie Owens.

From his youth he learned kindness, self-control, honesty, resilience, faithfulness, and dedication which served him well.

As a high school student, he participated in track and football and earned the title of Salutatorian for the Class of 1964 at A.W. Jackson High School.

Roosevelt served his country in Vietnam, earning a Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal. He also became an x-ray technician with a rank of SP4 (P) E-4.

He had a distinguished career as a research technician for Exxon Chemical Company.

Roosevelt is preceded in death by his parents, fourteen siblings, and his Uncle Verge Sims and Aunt Eula Sims.

He leaves behind to treasure his memory, his loving wife of fifty-eight years, Doris Gean Owens; son Roosevelt Owens II; daughters, Courtney Michele Owens and Sharonda LaNise Young; Brandon Young son-in-law; and four grandchildren; Amaya LaNaii Lane, Victoria Elizabeth Lane, Olivya Ann Lynn Young and Caoimhe Shea Eacret.
Sister-in-laws: Walterine Fountain, Johnnie Pettiett; and a sister of the heart Johnnie Mae Thomas Greenwood; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

In his memory, there will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 3:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas.
