Michael Wayne Russell

Michael Wayne Russell, of League City, Texas passed away on July 6, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer and a septic infection in Nassau Bay, Texas at the age of 57.  He was born on September 29, 1968, in Shreveport, Louisiana to Wayne and Mary Russell.

Mike spent his first 6 years in Louisiana before his parents moved with him to Sugarland, Texas to start 1st grade.  He attended Meadows and Towne west Elementary schools, Sugarland Junior High and the Clements High school and graduated from there in 1986.  He started college in the fall of 1986 at The University of Texas in Austin.  In the fall of 1987 met the love of his life, Kristy, at a TKE fraternity party and told his friends that he would marry her one day.  However, they would become best friends and drinking buddies first.  Even after Mike transferred to The University of Houston they remained friends, visiting each other often.  On Valentine’s Day they had their 1st official date just before they graduated from college in May.  They got engaged on New Year’s Eve 1992 before getting married on September 11, 1993.  Mike started working as a pharmacist and enjoyed his life’s work for 34 years.  He worked his way up to Pharmacy Manager and Pharmacy Director in home health care before moving to Clear Lake Rehab hospital almost 25 years ago.  In May 2004 Mike and Kristy welcomed their first son, Ian, and then another son, Logan, in March of 2009.  Being a dad was one of the highlights of his life.  He loved spending time with them doing things like the zoo and children’s museum when they were young and amusement parks, movies, concerts and much more when they got older.  One of their favorite things was having boy’s nights with them monthly doing simple things like going to the mall, Academy, Target, and comic bookstores.  He was a member of Webster Presbyterian Church after he and Kristy married there for more than 32 years, even serving as a deacon.  He enjoyed watching sports, going to concerts, taking perfect pictures, meticulously caring for his yard/lawn, and spending time with Kristy, his sons, family, and friends.  He also enjoyed people watching, general goofiness and silliness, tomfoolery, being a prankster/jokester, and was a great imitator.  He will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor, repartee, being finicky, charisma, dependability, meticulousness, fussiness, reliability, and his infectious smile.

He is preceded in death by his father, Wayne; grandparents Rupert and Beatrice Russell and Marion and Dottie Smith; brother-in-law Tracy Steele; sister-in-law Teresa Bookwalter; uncles Bob Simmons and Glenn Haggen; nephew Bryce Thompson and childhood friend Dan Roesler.

He is survived by his wife of almost 33 years Kristy; sons Ian and Logan; mother and father in law Jospeh and Rebecca Hisle; sister in law Yvonne Thompson; brother in law David Steele and wife Justine; brother in law Steve Hisle and wife Stephanie; sister in law Melissa Steele; aunt Lorraine Simmons; nephew Kyle Steele and wife Courtney along with their children Joanna, Abraham and Theodore; nephew Mason O’Briant; nephew Jospeh Hisle; niece Anita Soto and husband Joshua along with their son Miles; niece Sarah and husband Alex along with their daughter Catalina; cousins Beverly, David and Tammy; dear friend Terry Wilson; his beloved dog Ellie along with many, many friends he’s met through the years.
