Michael Wayne Porterfield born July 22,1963,. Michael had a wife of 43 years Kathy, 3 children, David the number 1 son, his baby girl Rachel, and the nerd Justin. He had nick names for all of his children.

He had his mother Betty, his dad Albert, his sister Cynthia, and sister Cherie. He also had a daughter in law Ashleigh who is married to David, they gave him two grandchildren Maverick Vance Porterfield so his initials would be MVP 8, and Wilder Michael 5. 3. Michael was like a second dad to me. Justin and I have been friends for almost 25 years. Michael would tell me I was his second favorite daughter. This world will be a little less brighter with him not in it. But I know for myself and his family we are glad he is no longer in pain. I know Michael has a seat saved for all of us when it’s our time to see him again in heaven. We all the love!

  4. I have been friends with Justin for over 25 years. Michael and Kathy were second parents to me. I know this world is a little less bright without Michael in it. But I know for myself and for his family, we are grateful that he is out of pain. I know that Michael is saving all of us a seat when it’s our turn to be called to heaven. With all the love

  5. Ah… my favorite memories of David was watching him shrug when anyone suggested a different fix for something. Odds are after much consternation, we’d do it the way he suggested first.

Much love to the family and especially you, sweet Kathy.

    • My many apologies… I always called Michael Mr. Porterfield and I was trying to be familiar and kind.

Mr. Porterfield was so funny and helpful; there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do. While his family swirled around him in a vibrant whirlwind he was always calm and kind. And those baked beans… yum!

Kathy, I apologize for my inattentive fingers and know I love you all the most.

  7. In Loving Memory of Michael,

Our thoughts and prayers are with our family as we grieve this loss together.

Michael wasn’t just my cousin, he was like a brother to me. We grew up side by side, and he always called me his “other little sis.” The bond we shared is something I will always cherish.
He had a gentle soul and a kind heart. He could light up a room with his smile, and he always knew how to make us laugh, even on some of the hardest days.
It breaks our hearts that he left us so soon, but we are deeply grateful for every moment we got to share with him. The memories, the laughter, and the love will stay with us always.

Michael’s passing reminds me of a poem I came across recently, Our Family Chain:

Little did we know that morning,
God was going to call your name.
    In life we loved you dearly;
In death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you did not go alone.
For part of us went with you,
The day God called you home.
    You left us beautiful memories,
Your love is still our guide,
And although we can not see you,
You are always by our side.
    Our family chain is broken,
    And nothing seems the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
    Our chain will link again.

    Rest in peace, Michael.
You will always be in our hearts.
