  3. Michael and I met in the 5th grade, La Verne California in 1958. We were best friends for the next 63 years. Growing up in a small town during the 50’s was akin to a Tom Sawyer Huckleberry Finn saga. Everyday was an adventure. Smudging the orange groves, turning in empty coke bottles for pocket change and ditching Suday School and hiding out from the patrol cops who would always take us back.
We stayed in touch throughout our lives despite the distance between us. Weekly phone calls always ended with plenty of memories and laughter. Before hanging up on our last call, two days before his passing, Mike and I each said “the Love word.” It was always known but never said between us tough guys. I am so glad we did.
