Maria Elena Perez

Maria Elena Perez, 99 ½, of La Marque, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother, went to meet the Lord on Sunday, September 17, 2023 surrounded by her daughters.  Maria was born March 22, 1924 in Mexico to Guadalupe and Juanita Villarreal.

Maria was a member of the Guadalupanas Society of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque.  Her life was devoted first and foremost to God and then to family.  Her greatest joy came from praying for her daughters, her family and even strangers.  People would often reach out to Maria to ask that she intercede on their behalf, knowing that she had a spiritual bond with the Lord.  Mom would immediately begin praying, day and night, for that person.  Maria faithfully attended mass daily until she no longer could.  She loved cooking, gardening and painting.

Maria was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Pedro Perez, her parents Guadalupe and Juanita Villarreal, daughter Guadalupe Hilda Perez, and brothers Domingo, Rafael, Jesus and Guadalupe, and grandson James Wilson.  Maria is survived by brother Santos Villarreal and sister Juanita Reyes.

Maria is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Laura and Gerald Bodin of St. Martinville, LA, Leticia and Joe Wilson of La Marque, Blanca and David Comeaux of La Marque and Norma Bobo of Austin; grandchildren Allen and wife Sara Bodin, Lauren and husband David Thevenote, Tiffany and husband Jim Lester, Joe Wilson, Jonathan Wilson, Scott Comeaux, Sarah Comeaux and husband Matthew Garcia, and Tara Bayliss; numerous great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Visitation and a rosary will be Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at 9:00 a.m., followed by holy mass at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque with Rev. Msgr. James Anderson officiating.  Entombment will follow at Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Dickinson. Arrangements are under the care of the James Crowder Funeral Home, La Marque.

Pallbearers will be sons-in-law and grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the staff at Sodalis Assisted Living for the love and care shown to Maria.  And thank you to Essential Hospice for their care.
