Kenneth Dorman Davenport, Sr.
Kenneth Dorman Davenport, Sr. (88) of Santa Fe, Texas passed away Thursday June 18, 2026 at UTMB Clear Lake with his family by his side after a hard fought month long battle with severe pneumonia. He was born on January 25, 1938 in Rockdale, Texas to Walter and Myrle Davenport.
Kenneth married his loving wife of 70 years, Betty Joyce Cosby, on December 3, 1955 in Galveston, Texas. Three months prior to their marriage, Kenneth began his career at Texas Transport and Terminal Company as an office boy. He worked up the ranks to General Manager in the 24 years he was employed there. After leaving 3T’s, Kenneth went to work at Hall-Buck Marine in 1980 as the Agency Manager-West Gulf. In 1983, Kenneth stepped into the executive roll of Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Seaward Ocean Lines. While working in the shipping industry, Kenneth was a member of the Propeller Club. After leaving the shipping industry, he became the Office Manager of his son’s A/C business, Hayden Cooling and Heating where he worked for 26 years before he decided to finally retire.
Kenneth was endeared by his family as Popi. Kenneth and Joyce had two children, a son and daughter; and a granddaughter who they adopted and raised. As residents of Galveston they moved into their first home in La Marque, Texas in 1961. In 1975, they relocated to Houston; then in 1995 moved to Santa Fe where they currently reside. Kenneth was very tender hearted, loved his family and his animals. He was very respected as a business man. His favorite topics of conversation were taxes, insurance and how you should save your money.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents: Walter Lee and Tressie Myrle Davenport; sister: Elizabeth Sue Davenport; brother: Wilburn Lee Davenport; and son:Kenneth Dorman Davenport, Jr.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife: Betty Joyce Davenport; daughter: Karen Denise Davenport; brother: Walter Harley Davenport (Mary); daughter-in-law: Marian Davenport; sister-in-law: Alisa Davenport; granddaughter: Jennifer Kay (Darrell); grandson: Kyle Davenport (Katie); great grandchildren: Hunter Kay (Dixee), Travis Kay (Zoe), Jacob Kay, Kinsley Davenport, Kylie Davenport, Kailyn Davenport, Kori Davenport; great-great grandson: Westyn Kay; loyal family friend: Lori Glenn; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Pall Bearers are Kyle Davenport, Darrell Kay, Hunter Kay, Travis Kay, Jacob Kay and Stephen Borden.
Visitation will be held at James Crowder Funeral Home, 851 FM 517 Road West, Dickinson, Texas on Wednesday, June 24, 2026 beginning at 11:00 a.m. with services directly following at 12:00 p.m. Kenneth will be laid to rest next to his son at Galveston County Memorial Cemetery.
