Karen Thomas was born Karen M. Johnson on January 31, 1955, in Jacksonville, Florida and went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on September 27, 2026, in Webster, TX. She was the eldest of six siblings.

Karen grew up in Gainesville, Florida, where she loved the beach, excelled in school, and played the organ for the local church. The family moved to New Orleans, Louisiana, where she graduated high school.

After high school, she graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi receiving a B.S. in Nursing. She became a registered nurse and moved back to New Orleans to start her career.

Karen eventually moved to the Clear Lake Area in the early 1980s and made League City, TX her home where her daughters grew up. During this time, she obtained a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and worked in various roles within multiple hospitals.

Karen had an opportunity to teach nursing for Lee College and Houston Christian (Baptist) University, while she received a graduate degree from Houston Christian (Baptist) University to become a Nurse Practitioner. After teaching, she worked and retired as a Nurse Practitioner, specializing in family practice.

She enjoyed traveling, football, basketball, the arts, TV/movies, and spending time with her family. She was always ready for an adventure.

Karen was a beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend. She is survived by her daughters, Nola & Stephanie, son-in-law Robert, four grandchildren, Jennifer, Drake, Griffin, & Cesar, and siblings, Victoria, Hillary, Laurie, & Mark. She is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Barbara and brother Lee.

Karen’s Family is holding a Memorial Service on Sunday, October 4, 2026 at 11am with a visitation at 10am at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 East Main Street, League City, Texas 77573.
