“K-9 Greg” Gregory Charles Petershagen

“K-9 Greg” Gregory Charles Petershagen, age 69, of Alvin, Texas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2026, in Clear Lake, Texas.  Greg was born on December 31, 1956, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Gerald Petershagen and Katherine “Kay” McMartin.

Greg made his home in Alvin for the past 21 years and was formerly a resident of Hitchcock. He built a life centered around God, family and his connection to all those he met. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his loyalty, and the care he showed to those closest to him. Greg devoted his work career to security service and dog training. He previously owed K-9 Kingdom Dog Training Company in Galveston County. He recently completed his 20th year as a security officer at NASA and as a K-9  handler at the Galveston Cruise Ship Terminal. He cherished family & friends, music, and the joy of training dogs.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Petershagen; his mother, Katherine “Kay” McMartin; his brothers, Terry Petershagen, Jerry Petershagen, and Kim Petershagen; and great-grandchild Kolt Barton.

Greg is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Janette Petershagen of Alvin; his stepdaughter, Mandy Thomas and husband Shane of Texas City; and his stepson, Arron Willingham and wife Angi of Dickinson. He is also survived by his sisters, Deb Stephenson and husband Steve of Cushing, and Robin Miller and husband Nathan of Waxahachie, as well as his brothers, Todd Petershagen of Nacogdoches and Shon Petershagen and wife Sue of Cannon Lake. Greg also leaves behind grandchildren, Kelsey Thomas and fiancé Michael Tennyson, Hunter Thomas, Keith Barton, and Cody Golden, and his great-grandchildren, Adrian Pena, Nolan Barton, Dallas Barton, and Addie Tennyson. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom brought him much joy.

Greg loved being outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, riding his Harley or training dogs. He also had an enormous love for music and playing the many guitars he had collected over the years. In 2009, Greg produced a CD featuring a collection of his own original songs, Titled “Ariah This Journey”.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will remember him for his dedication to those he loved, his infectious passions, and the many cherished memories he created. The impact he made on all he knew and met will remain in their hearts forever.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson. A funeral service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, with Pastor Tim Franklin officiating.

Interment will take place at Mt. Hope Memorial Park Addition in Watertown, South Dakota on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at 11:00am.
