John Jay Grothe

 

John Jay Grothe, 51, of Pearland, TX passed away peacefully in his home with his family by his side on January 18, 2022 after a battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. John was born in Wharton, TX to Sequoia Jean Potter and Rueben William Grothe Jr on December 5, 1970. John grew up in Brazoria, Texas, attending West Columbia High School. John married his high-school sweetheart, Angela Grothe in 1990. John then went on to fight for his country, serving in the U.S. Navy during Desert Shield. He traveled the world serving his country, living in Virginia, Saudi Arabia, and Antarctica. After his time in the military, John earned an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. John and Angela settled down in Pearland, Texas in 1998 to start a family and raise their two sons. John worked in the electrical sales industry for 25 years, finishing his career with Ellen Lighting. John was a member New Hope Church, the Guadalupe River Trout Unlimited and VFW Post 7109.

John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and cooking for his family and friends. He loved to spend time at his river house in Canyon Lake where he would relax, fish, and enjoy time with family and friends.

John is preceded in death by Thomas F. Potter, Grandfather, Martha G. Potter, Grandmother, and Rueben W. Grothe Sr., Grandfather, Geneva F. Grothe, Grandmother, and Trey W. Grothe, brother.

He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Angela Grothe; sons: Garrett Grothe (Katie), Reece Grothe; father, Rueben Grothe (Chris); mother, Sequoia Boswell (Charlie); father-in-law, Wayne Berry (Betty); sister, Lisa Barina (Chris); brothers: John Daspit (Amy), Brandon Daspit, Josh Daspit (Mandy); brother-in-law, Scott Berry (Carrie), as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Services will be held Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at Crowder Funeral Home, Pearland, TX. Visitation 1:00 p.m. Service 3:00 p.m. There will not be a reception to follow the service.

Honorary pallbearers will be: Garrett Grothe, Reece Grothe, Ivan Svec, Kyle Stone, Scott Smith, Chris Doyle (son; Jacob Doyle standing in his honor)

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in honor of John to VFW Post 7109, 4202 W Walnut St, Pearland, TX 77581.

That friendship lasted through the years in our industry. John was just one of those guys, always smiling and didn’t know a stranger. A glass half full guy!   16. I worked with John over the years in the homebuilding industry and I must say, he was one of a kind. You were instantly a friend for life when you met him. He did so much for others and was always positive and tons of fun to be around. I know how saddened I am that he is no longer here but I am at peace knowing that God’s army got a heck of an angel that will be doing his wonderous work in Heaven.

  19. My heart hurts for John’s family, and I send my condolences to them all. This is such a tragic loss of a great guy. He was loved by all in the industry, and will be missed immensely. I will always remember his smile, he was such a joy to be around. I greatly appreciate his service to our country. He was truly the all American guy next door.
