Joan Reilly O’Neil

Joan Reilly O’Neil, a long-time resident of Newtown, CT, died Thursday the 30th of August at her home, The Delaney at South Shore, in League City, TX.

Born in 1930 in Port Chester, NY to Michael and Cecile Reilly, Joan grew up in Rye, NY and graduated from Rye High School. She worked in retail and human resources for several years while she and her husband Jerry raised their family. While living in Newtown, Joan was very active in the General Federation of Women’s Club, American Red Cross Blood Bank, Newtown Garden Club and Meals on Wheels. She was once selected as Volunteer of the Year in the American Red Cross in Connecticut.

For the last 6 years while living in Texas, Joan was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church.

Joan is survived by her loving husband Robert “Jerry” O’Neil. During their 66 years of marriage, and Jerry’s career including the U.S. Marine Corps and FBI, they made their home in several locations around the country, including Maryland, Michigan, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania and most recently Texas. She was always extremely proud to tell everyone she met that Jerry had a career as a Special Agent in the FBI.

She is also survived by her children and spouses; Julie (Owen) Duvall of Clive, IA, Robert (Kathy) O’Neil of Duncan, SC, Beth (Henning) Kornbrekke of Rio Verde, AZ and Matthew (Melanie) O’Neil of League City, TX; 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She dedicated her life to her family, with great love.

She was preceded in death by her parents Michael and Cecile Reilly, brother Matthew “Skip” Reilly, sister Anne Reilly White, and brother Joseph Reilly who died at birth. Her many nieces and nephews were endeared to her.

Funeral services will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church in League City, TX at 10:00 AM on Wednesday the 5th of September, which would have been her 88th birthday. Interment will be at a later date at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery, in Dickinson, TX.
