Jeanette Slifer

10 year Friendswood resident Jeanette Slifer passed away on July 9, 2015 at age 74.

She grew up on a farm in Eastern Iowa, graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in occupational therapy.  She broke many conventions in the early 1960’s by moving across the country to San Antonio and joining the Women’s Army Corp as an Officer.  After becoming pregnant with her first child she was required to discharge from the Army.  She was a stay-at-home Mom and Army Wife until the mid 1980’s when she reentered the work force as an Occupational Therapist.  She ended her career when she retired from her life of service at the San Antonio State Hospital in 2004.  She then and moved to Friendswood to be close to some of her grandchildren.

Jeanette is survived by daughter Lynda Gavin, her partner Malise Fletcher, and Lynda’s kids Mary and Aaron and by son Dr. Mike Slifer, his wife Lindsay, and Mike’s kids Luke and Rowan.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, at 10am at the Crowder Funeral Home (111 E. Medical Center Blvd, Webster). Those wishing to make a memorial donation in Jeanette’s memory in lieu of flowers may do so to Meals on Wheels… www.mowaa.org/donate-tribute

  1. My thoughts are with Mike and the rest of the family. I’m so sorry for your loss. I was lucky to have met Jeannette and got to know her a little when she visited Florida right after Rowan was born. I’m really sorry that she did not get to see Rowan again after he outgrew his early fussy period.
