Jason Robert Wilson

Jason Robert Wilson (also known as Smiley) passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023 at his home surrounded by family after a long battle with colon cancer; he was 47 years old.  Jason was born to Robert Clay Wilson and Linda Dunaway Wilson on May 25, 1976 in Fairmont, West Virginia; he currently resided in Pearland, Texas.

Jason Wilson is survived by his wife of fourteen years Kristi Wilson; mother Linda Wilson; brother Josh Wilson and his wife Katy; father-in-law Larry Labay and his wife Jyl Labay; mother-in-law Linda McAda. Sister-in-Law Stacy Fuchs and her husband Chris Fuchs; sister-in-law Ashley Labay and her husband Sam Poindexter.  Jason was also survived by his nieces and nephews Coby Fuchs, Emma Fuchs, and Clayton Fuchs, Morgan Dedo, Jason Dedo, and Kace Wilson.

Jason Wilson was preceded in death by his father, Robert Wilson; and grandparents, Robert and Betty Dunaway and Clay and Georgia Wilson.

Jason grew up in Winchester, Virginia and graduated from James Wood High School.  He received his Bachelor degree from Milligan University in Milligan, TN and his Masters degree in Public Relations at  East Tennessee State University.

Jason Wilson was an educator at Fort Bend ISD at First Colony Middle School for 18 years where he taught World History. Jason had a passion for teaching and coached football, basketball and tennis. He was a devoted teacher and loved coaching and working with his students.  He has touched many lives of his students and will be missed.

Jason married the love of his life, Kristi Labay, on June 20, 2009; they met in 2007 and were instant best friends.  Jason and Kristi enjoyed dancing, going to baseball games and walking their dogs, Maddie and Daisy.  Jason was an avid sports fan; he loved his Mets but also supported the Astros.  He collected many signed photos and other memorabilia from sports to movies.

Smiley always had a positive outlook on life even while struggling with cancer. He was a compassionate person and always looked out for others before himself.

We would like to thank the Houston Hospice employees for their care and support, especially Nurse Jodie Schultz and Chaplain Dan Danford.

A memorial service for Jason Robert Wilson is scheduled for Thursday June 8th at 5pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St., Pearland, Texas with visitation starting at 4pm.

  1. Kristi,
I know we’ve never met, but I know that if you were married to Smiley, then you are a remarkable woman, indeed. He was such a sweet guy and I cherish many fond memories of him from our time together at Milligan.
I have been praying for you and will continue to do so. I know you have hard days ahead, but we can have blessed assurance that Jason is with His Lord and his suffering is over.
I will continue to pray God’s comfort for you and your family.
