James Andrew “Andy” Wingo

James Andrew “Andy” Wingo, 97, moved on to greener pastures on Friday November 27, 2020.  Andy was born in the summer of 1923 in Houston, Texas to Almer and Anna Faulds Wingo.

As a young boy growing up in the Houston Heights, Andy could be found out and about hunting and fishing with his favorite horse Sonny Boy and his bird dogs.  He shared his love of horses and the great outdoors with his mother Anna.

Andy worked at Carnation Milk Company before joining the U.S. Army in 1942.  After serving his country he went to work as an electrician for Humble Oil Company in Houston.  He met and married the love of his life, his wife of 62 years, Roegene Turner.   Andy was a proud graduate of the University of Houston with a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering. He and Gene raised their three kids on the Dickinson Bayou where they enjoyed entertaining friends and family and boating.  We’re pretty sure he taught half of the kids in Dickinson how to water ski.

He retired in 1980 from Friendswood Development Company upon which time he and Gene moved to their cattle ranch in Sweet Home, Texas where they enjoyed many years with special friends.

Andy was a lifelong member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, VFW Post #6209 Shiner, Texas, Sweet Home American Legion, Post #571 where he served as Commander for many years.  He was also a lifelong member of Yoakum Lodge #662 Grand Lodge of Texas, AF & AM, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the IBEW, Lavaca County Crime Stoppers, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers and Lavaca County Wildlife Management Association.

Andy was preceded in death by his mother and father, his wife Gene Wingo, his brothers Denson Wingo, T. M. Wingo, Harley Wingo, his sister Geraldine Hermansen and his oldest grandson Justin Wingo.  Left to cherish his memory are his son, Dennis Wingo (Shirley), his two daughters Denise Davis (Ripper) and Donna Dienst (Mike).  His grandchildren Erica Dienst (Chris), Ryan Wingo, Beau Wingo (Tiffany), Michael Dienst (Melissa), Mandy Klindworth (Eric), and great grandchildren Logan Strom, Laney Dienst, Westin Dienst, Kennedy Dienst, Gunner Carlson, Tyson Carlson, Justin Wingo, Emaleigh Wingo and Libby James Klindworth as well as  many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to all of Andy’s special caregivers, especially Denise Cates, his angel and best friend.  Laura LaBry his most caring and thoughtful hospice nurse and Essential Hospice, LaVitaBella his final residence, Dr. Chaconas and the wonderful ladies in his office and his most caring and kind physician, Dr. Brian Acquino.

The family will have a private visitation then Andy will be laid to rest beside his wife and family at Rosewood Memorial Park cemetery, 2602 S. Houston Avenue, Humble, Texas on Tuesday, December 1 at 2:30 p.m.
