Frederick (Fred) Barksdale

Frederick (Fred) Barksdale of Richmond, TX passed away on January 6, 2022. He was born on March 17, 1953, in Gary, Indiana.

Fred graduated from Indiana University, where he proudly pledged Phi Beta Sigma.

Fred was an avid biker and for many years participated in the BP MS 150, two-day fundraising cycling ride, the Tour de Houston annual bike ride and various other rides throughout the region. He thoroughly enjoyed participating in these events with some of his best friends, as well as, his oldest brother, John III and youngest brother, Kenneth.

Fred loved traveling and spending time with his love, Annie, friends, and family.

Fred worked for Facility Interiors for 15 years and took immense pride in his role of Business Development Representative for a minority owned company. He served on the Board of the Greater Houston Black Chamber of Commerce and was a long-time member, advocate, and volunteer at the Houston Minority Supplier Development Council where he developed many lifelong friendships.

Fred had a genuine love for people and was always seeking ways to help others.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, John Jr., and Hannah Barksdale; his 1st born son, Frederick (Ricky) Dameon Barksdale II and 3 siblings, Angela, Billy, and Alfred Barksdale.

Fred is survived by his son, Jonathon Barksdale of Austin, TX; his loving fiancée, Annie Lidge; grandson, Devanta Barksdale; 4 sisters, Yvonne, Sharon, and Yolandia Barksdale of Houston, TX and Shelondia Barksdale of Killeen, TX; 5 brothers, John III (Cynthia) of Orlando, FL, Edward of Omaha, NE, Raymond of  Gary, IN, Kelvin of  Dallas, TX and Kenneth (Tina) of Merrillville, IN; Godson, Edward Guy of Katy, TX;  Bonus daughters, Kindra Lidge of Katy, TX and Robin Hershkovitz of Orlando, FL and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and an enormous circle of friends around the world. He also leaves to cherish his loving dog, Maxwell Barksdale, his furry family member.

Fred will be missed by all who knew him. A celebration of a life well lived will be held at River Pointe Church, 2100 Southwest Fwy, Richmond, TX 77469, Saturday, February 5, 2022, at 11am.

He was so proud to let us know that we were Fraternity brothers and sisters “Phi Beta Sigma and Zeta Phi Beta.” He had a delightful energy and amazing smile.
