Evangelia Mourtakos
Evangelia Riga Mourtakos, 90 years old, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday October 19, 2025 in Webster, Texas. Evangelia was born on March 28, 1935 in her beloved home town of Nafpaktos, Greece to Efthimios and Vasiliki (Holeva) Rigas. In 1961 Evangelia immigrated to Montreal, Canada for a better opportunity in the fashion industry. Within two years, her two sisters to joined her. In early 1968, she met Elias Mourtakos and they were married in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 25, 1968. In 1969 they started a family with the birth of their son, Demetrios, and in 1973 with the birth of their second son, Efthimios, who sadly due to illness passed away three months later. In the summer of 1978, seeking a better opportunity, they decided to move to Houston, Texas, near her brother, where within a year they opened a restaurant and settled in Pasadena. In 1988 they embarked on a new path in the resale business. In 2001, at the invitation of their daughter-in-law, Evangelia and her husband moved in with her and their son. For 24 years, Evangelia was able to have the joy of seeing and helping raise her two grandsons Elias and Mario every day whom she loved with all her heart.
Evangelia was preceded in death by her loving husband Elias of 53 years. Evangelia is survived by her son and wife, Demetrios and Sylvia (Torres) Mourtakos; two grandsons, Elias and Mario; sisters Helen Tsekouras and Foto Rahanoitis; brother and wife, John Rigas and Aleka; nieces Effie Rahaniotis, Sophia Tsekouras, Maria Riga and nephew George Rahaniotis.
