Elcy Louise Betts

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Elcy Betts passed away peacefully in her sleep at home in La Porte, TX on May 01, 2024. She was 88. Elcy was born in Ida, LA. She lived in Trinity, TX for
many years before moving in with her beloved “Honey Bee” grandson Nathan and his family, where she enjoyed being pampered and loved on. They gave Elcy the best last years of her life. Elcy was a very adventurous and fun loving woman. She was an avid storyteller and had many true life stories to tell about!

She was a pillar of prayer for each and every person in our family. No doubt we all
have made it through some tough times due to her relentless and consistent praying on our behalf. She traveled the world with her “Mr. Wonderful” husband William aka Bill Betts of 31 years. She loved history and photography. She will be sorely missed, but we rejoice knowing she is reunited with Papa in heaven. Elcy was preceded in death by her husband William Betts, her son Jerry Wantland, sister Mary Grogan and brother Jimmy Smith, as well as her parents Lindley and Annie Smith. She is survived by her son Gary (Cheri) Wantland, sisters Nancy Carol Glenn and Donna Gail Goldhawk;
grandchildren Nathan (Lexie) Wantland and Eric (Brittany Smith) Wantland, Sr; great grandchildren Isabel Wantland, Zoey Wantland, Emma Wantland, Talynn Wantland and Eric Wantland, Jr; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family is eternally grateful to her sister Gail, who lived next door to Elcy in Trinity and helped take care of her after Bill passed away. And to Lexie Wantland who went above and beyond to provide the
absolute best care to Elcy in her last years. Without a doubt, Elcy lived a happy and full life to the very end because of the Wantland “FabFive” family.
There will be a private ceremony and spreading of her ashes with the family.
In Lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude in her memory.
