Edward William Moroney, 96, of Dickinson, Texas, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, to go home and be with his Lord.

Born in Houston, Texas, on October 27, 1929, to William A. Moroney and Hetti Lillian “Kosh” Moroney, he was the oldest of four children, brothers Bobby and Pat, and sister Mary Ann. Being born during the Great Depression had a lasting impact on his life. He was extremely frugal and deeply responsible with money, a trait that became both a point of pride and a source of affectionate family teasing.

Edward earned both his degree in Mechanical Engineering and his MBA from the University of Houston. He built a distinguished career as an engineer, spending much of his professional life with Union Carbide before retiring after 25 years with Amoco Chemicals in Texas City. He approached his work the same way he approached life: seriously, methodically, and with high standards.

Edward met his wife of 40 years, Mary Ann “Sweeney” Moroney, at a Catholic Youth Organization dance at the University of Houston. They married in 1953 and raised their two children, Mark and Karen, in Dickinson, Texas. He was an active member of Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church, serving as a Eucharistic minister, and was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. He also served on the Dickinson City Council, contributing his time and steady judgment to the community he called home.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his three siblings; and his two beloved wives, Mary Ann Moroney and later Kathryn “Kitty” Makin Moroney, his wife of 15 years.

He is survived by his son, Mark Moroney (Terri Woods King); his daughter, Karen Canada-Martin (Ken Martin); his five granddaughters, Tiffany Moroney (Sebastian), Lauren Montelongo (Raul), Molly Machol, Melanie Moroney, and Katie Canada; and his two great-granddaughters, Avery and Lupita.

Edward was known as a serious man: honest, hardworking, athletic, straightforward, and guided by strongly held convictions. His hobbies reflected both discipline and delight: big band music, golfing, woodworking, watching sports, solving crossword puzzles, and playing the organ.

Though often the most serious person in the room, Edward was deeply loved by a family that balanced his gravity with laughter. His legacy lives on in the discipline he modeled and the values he steadfastly upheld.

In his honor, there will be a visitation on Thursday, February 26, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm with rosary to follow at 7:00pm at Crowder Funeral Home in Dickinson, Texas. A mass is planned for Friday, February 27, 2026 at 12:00pm at Shrine of the True Cross Catholic Church in Dickinson, Texas. Burial will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
