Edward Mark Anthony Perera

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Mark Anthony Perera, who departed this life peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on November 8, 2025, at the age of 91. He now rests in eternal life with our Lord.

Born on January 13, 1934, in Katana, Sri Lanka, Ed was the beloved son of Richard and Mary Perera. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Father Bernard Perera, OMI. A proud alumnus of St. Benedict’s College, Colombo, Ed graduated with a degree in mathematics before embarking on a distinguished career in the Royal Ceylon Navy (RCN), where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander.

During his naval service, Ed met the love of his life, Manel, and they married in 1960, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 65 years. His dedication to learning led him to earn a Master’s Degree in Oceanography from the U.S. Naval Academy Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

Following his naval career, Ed transitioned to the oil industry, where he worked as a subsea pipeline chief engineer, contributing to projects across the globe. His professional achievements were matched by his devotion to faith and family. Ed was a longtime parishioner of Mary Queen Catholic Church (Friendswood, TX) and more recently of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Community (Manvel, TX).

Ed leaves behind his cherished wife, Manel, and their children: Dilshad Perera, Manoj (Romani) Perera, Jeevan Perera, Kumar Perera, and Ashok (Stacie Pacitti) Perera. He is also survived by his beloved grandchildren: Ian Perera, Amrit Perera, Anjali Perera, Joshua Perera, and Alyssa Perera.

Ed will be remembered for his unwavering integrity, deep faith, passion for travel and the love he shared with all who knew him. His legacy lives on in the hearts of his family and friends.

  2. Uncle Edward was a good friend of my father Dr. Neil Abeysekera, and I remember them sharing their lifelong stories when they were young and bold with us. The two families were so close that they used to call each other every week until my father passed. I had utmost respect for uncle Ed and We’ll miss him dearly and may his soul rest in peace.

  3. A lot of times you can tell how good a father is by the way his children turned out. I never met him personally but he must’ve been a great man because of the way you are. Prayers for you and your family.

  10. So sorry to learn about Ed’s passing, and sincere condolences to the Family. We were colleagues in INTEC, and I think he retired soon after, initially to Lake Livingston, but then I think he returned to live in an apartment in Katy later on. He was a kindly soul, always gentle and smiling.
    May he Rest In Peace🙏🏾

  13. My sincerest condolences to Manel, Ed’s children and grandchildren. My wife Yvonne and I have very dear memories of the years we both worked together with Ed as far back as the 1970s, when RJBA started up in The Netherlands. Ed seemed to be blessed by having a perpetual aura of pleasantness. This, combined with his professionalism, made it very rewarding to work with him. He will be always remembered for his outstanding character.
