Dr. Savitri Jayantha Ariyaratna

Dr. Savitri Jayantha Ariyaratna, affectionately known as “Savi,” passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2026, with her devoted husband by her side. She was 74 years old.

Savi was born on November 25, 1951, in Sri Lanka to Malathi and Dingiri Banda Dissanayake. From an early age, her parents recognized her intelligence and encouraged her to pursue higher education. She attended Maliyadeva Girls’ School and graduated in 1974 before earning her medical degree from the University of Peradeniya Medical School in 1979.

In 1980, Savi moved to South Africa, where she lived until 1987 before making the United States her home later that year.

Her medical career spanned three countries and touched countless lives. She practiced medicine in Sri Lanka, South Africa, and Texas, caring for her patients with exceptional skill, compassion, and kindness. Even outside the clinic, Savi was always willing to share her medical knowledge and offer guidance to friends and loved ones. Whenever someone needed advice or reassurance, she answered the call with generosity and a warm heart.

Above all, Savi was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She found great joy in cooking and baking, passing her love of both on to her son and daughter. She especially enjoyed cake decorating, growing a variety of flowers, collecting beautiful figurines, attending live entertainment shows, and traveling, with Las Vegas and Hawaii among her favorite destinations.

Savi is survived by her beloved husband of 47 years, Rajamanthri Ariyaratna; her daughter, Vathsala Ariyaratna; her son, Thenuka Ariyaratna, and his wife, Ashley; her cherished grandchildren, Lincoln Raja Ariyaratna and Miles Carter Ariyaratna; her sisters, Mandri Obeyesekere and her husband, Nihal, Vajira Pethiyagoda and her husband, Palitha, and Devani Dissanayake and her husband, Udaya; her brothers, Kashyapa Dissanayake and his wife, Ramini, and Rahula Dissanayake and his wife, Shiromani; her brother-in-law, Subash Jayawardena; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, colleagues, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Malathi and Dingiri Banda Dissanayake, and her sister, Ayona Dissanayake.

A visitation to honor Dr. Savitri Jayantha Ariyaratna’s life will be held on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Crowder Funeral Home, 2422 E. Broadway St., Pearland, Texas. In keeping with Savi’s wishes, funeral services will be private and by invitation only for close family and friends.

Savi’s kindness, wisdom, generosity, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, and patients will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
