Douglas (Doug) Mansfield Zeek

Douglas (Doug) Mansfield Zeek, a resident of Dickinson TX passed from this life into the presence of the Lord Jesus on March 11, 2021.  He was born November 24, 1929 in New York City to Donald and Marion Zeek. Doug had a brother Richard and sister Marilyn (Marilyn passed in 2015). Doug completed a BS Mechanical Engineering degree at Rutgers University in New Jersey, the state where he grew up. Doug then accepted a 2nd Lieutenant commission in the Air Force in 1952 soon after graduation. He wanted to see the world but found something better when he met and married Myrtle Rogillio on June 12, 1954 while still in the Air Force.

They had two sons Donald (Don) born in 1955 and Edward (Ed) born in 1957.  By 1956 Doug and Myrtle made it to Texas where Doug worked for Texas Instruments for 25 years in the Houston area. They also lived for many years in Baton Rouge LA during and following a time when Myrtle needed to take care of her mother following a stroke. Doug was active in the leadership of Indian Guides, Cub Scouts, Little League and on a water district board. He loved camping, traveling, skiing, sailing, riding motorcycles, woodworking, fixing things but his favorite activity was flying. Doug obtained his solo pilot license when he was 15 and received his private pilot license in his late 20s.  He loved to take family and friends on flying trips both around the area and cross country. Doug owned a service station for a few years, enjoyed tutoring students in math and drove a special needs students school bus for many years. In full retirement, Doug and Myrtle served with SOWERs (Servants on Wheels Ever Ready) traveling all over the USA in their 5th wheel trailer helping build and repair christian camps and churches. Doug and Myrtle fulfilled his earlier dream to see the world by taking trips to Israel and Europe.

Doug and Myrtle’s son Don married Sandy Hay (now deceased) and they have nine children. Jennifer with children Conner, Ian, Alex and Victoria; Brandy with spouse Jeremy Minter and children Reuben, Anna, Laura and Levi; Jonathan with spouse Alyssa and children Finnigan and Carter; Rebekah and spouse Max Feaster; Daniel with spouse Mary and daughter Charley; Melinda; Joshua with spouse April and children Eisley and Quinn; William with spouse Roxanne; and Verity.

Doug and Myrtle’s son Ed married Marisa Bergeron and they have three children. Cayla: Michael and spouse Devon; and  Nicholas.

Doug’s favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5. “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not on thine own understanding”.
