Dorothea “Dot” Smith

Dorothea “Dot” Len Wallace (Henson) Smith of La Marque, Texas died on Saturday, May 17, 2014.

Dot was born on October 26, 1935 in Galveston, Texas. She lived in LaMarque and attended LaMarque schools before moving to Cincinnati, Ohio. While in Cincinnati, Dot led an active and full life raising her family. She returned to LaMarque, where she lived the last 21 years. Dot was a very special person and had many talents. She enjoyed cooking and loved people, as was evident by her work at SAM’s Club where she prepared tasty samples for all to enjoy. Her lifelong love of dance and her lighthearted laughter touched the hearts of all who knew her. Dot’s cheerful sense of humor, her constant joyfulness and her gift of always seeing the brighter side of life were infectious. Not only was she a loving mom to her three sons, she was a “second mom” to many, especially her nieces. Dot graced the lives of all who crossed her path in life. She was a strong and courageous fighter to the end.

Dot is preceded in death by her son Scott Henson, her parents Russell Len and Dorothea Wallace, her sisters Marjorie Wallace Field, Beverly Wallace Jones, Woodie Wallace Remmers, and Terry Wallace Whalen.

Dot is survived by her husband, John F. Smith; her sons Jim Henson (Peggy) and Mike Henson (JoAnn); her sister Paula Wallace Pokladnic; brothers David Wallace and Donald Wallace; grandchildren Connie and Ashley; great-grandchildren Natalie, Ember and Camden and many nieces and nephews. Dot is also survived by John’s five children and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2014 at 10:00am at James Crowder Funeral Home in LaMarque with Pastor Johnny Angel officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dot’s name to a charity of your choice.

  1. I worked with Ms. Dot for years. She was always very kind and always put others before herself. She was a true joy to work with.
We all looked forward to her contribution when we had covered dish gatherings.
My recipe book is loaded with entries that have her name on it.
My life is richer because she was in it.
