Cyrus Charles “Chuck” McClellan

Cyrus Charles “Chuck” McClellan, 81, of Friendswood TX passed away on November 12, 2024. He was born March 27, 1943 to Ursula Elizabeth Nolan and Cyrus Charles McClellan, Sr. in Houston, Texas. Chuck married Karen Sue Warner in 1964 and had two daughters, Dani, and Lesley. He also enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp in 1967 where he served 8 years that took him to Hawaii, Washington DC, California, Japan, and Vietnam. Chuck completed a tour in Vietnam where he earned several medals of service. After he was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sargeant, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri and went on to complete his Bachelor’s degree in 1977 and his Master’s degree in 1978. After Chuck and Karen divorced, he moved back to Galveston, Texas where he met and married Barbara Shields, his wife of 43 years, in 1981. They had one daughter together, Cathryn, and moved to Friendswood, Texas where they have lived for the last 40 years. Both Chuck and Barbara worked in the computer industry which made for very boring dinner conversations full of acronyms and computer geek humor over the course of those 43 years so Chuck felt it was his responsibility to make it more fun with his endless stream of Dad jokes, silly hats, lawn-mowing speedos, magic tricks (that weren’t really magical), mismatched crazy socks, various animal noises he thought relevant to the moment, so many euphemisms for going to the bathroom, and the best bear hugs ever! All of this with music from Leon Redbone, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Paul Simon, The Rolling Stones, Bo Diddly, Bluegrass, New Orleans Jazz, The Chieftains, Creedence Clear Water, Willie Nelson, Rod Stewart, I’m Too Sexy (for my shirt), Scottish bagpipes, and the Marine Corp Hymn imprinting the signature of these memories onto our hearts forever.

Chuck is preceded in death by his mother Ursula Elizabeth Ellis and stepfather Thurman; his aunt Jean Jacobson and uncle Jerry; and cousins Jerry (Jr), Ricky, and Ronnie Jacobson.

He is survived by wife Barbara Shields McClellan; daughters Dani Pfettscher and Chad, Lesley Judkins and Bob, and Cathryn Attaway; Grandchildren Riley Pfettscher and Caleb Attaway; and cousins Joe Jacobson and Maria, and Johnny Jacobson and Laurel and their families.

There will be a service  Friday November 22, 2024 at 5:00 P.M.  At Crowder Funeral Home 2422 Broadway Pearland, Texas. 77581.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Semper Fi Fund or The Wounded Warrior Project.

  1. Just want to once again offer our condolences to Barbara, Cathryn, Dani, and Lesley. We’ve known Chuck for more years than I want to admit. Yes, we’re old. Unfortunately, we sort of lost touch with he and Barbara after we moved to Spring to be closer to our children. We didn’t get to see each other as much anymore, but knew that when we did get to visit, it was still the same old guy you knew all along. His jokes, his dry humor was like none you’ve ever seen. He was always “CHUCK”. He will be sorely missed. God bless him and God bless his family.

  5. My serious condolences to Barbara and the whole family. Barbara had been a colleague for many years and while she was on a business trip in Germany I met her and her husband Chuck long time ago but I don’t forget our conversations we’ve had during their visit.
