Clare Bailey Sutherland

Sutherland WebClare Bailey Sutherland passed away on September 29th, after a well and hard fought battle with cancer. She managed through multiple rounds of chemo therapy, radiation therapy, and surgery, all with her characteristic smile and a belief that she would be okay. Buoyed by her faith, she faced each challenge with courage, strength, and a smile that was an inspiration to all. She touched many lives in her 21 years, and cared deeply and strongly about her friends, about her family, and about her faith.
Clare was a graduate of Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas, and a student at Texas State University when her academic career was shortened. She was proud to be a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, was photo editor of the Clear Creek High School yearbook staff throughout her high school career, a member of the Clear Creek High School band, and was a member of Clear Creek Community Church in League City, Texas. She loved people, laughter, beaches, the Texas hill country, music, her friends, and her family.
She is survived by her mother, Carol Miller Sutherland, her father George Sutherland, her sister and brother-in-law Jessica Maxwell and Stephen Maxwell, her nephew and Godson Luke Maxwell, all of League City, Texas, her brother Clayton Sutherland and Candie Fontenot, both of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and her grandfather William Sutherland of Florence, Alabama, and multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins extended across the USA.
Funeral arrangements include a visitation on Friday, October 2nd from 5:00 to 8:00 pm at Crowder Funeral Home, 1645 E. Main Street, League City, and a funeral service on Saturday, October 3rd at 11:00 am at Clear Creek Community Church, 999 Egret Bay Blvd N, League City Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Stupid Cancer, a national cancer support organization supporting young adults facing cancer: www.stupidcancer.org

  5. I don’t understand life right now, you didn’t deserve this. I lay here awake crying just thinking of the fun times we had.. thinking id have another chance to talk to you. I miss you terribly Clare. I wish I could make it to the funeral but I just can’t. Know that I will be thinking of you. Whenever I think I’m in pain I’ll be sure to check myself and say hey, Clare went through something I can’t even imagine… much less Clare going through it in the first place. I think for me I was just a bad friend, I didn’t take the time too really see how you were and im mourning your loss so so hard and I just hate that I can’t say sorry in person. I love you Clare, you’re a bigger man than I’ll ever be in my entire life, that’s a damn fact. Until we meet again little one <3

  6. I am so sorry for your loss. I cannot comprehend it. I am sorry too that I will not be able to bear with you tonight and tomorrow.

My memories of Claire are of bright blue eyes, that precocious smile and laughter, and yellow hair blown by the wind like so many petals of dandelion.

Please know that you are all in my prayers and I will be bearing with you from afar.
