Charlie Flores

flores charles 10 2 2014Charles G. “Charlie” Flores, 79, of Texas City, Texas passed away at his home with his loving family by his side on the morning of Thursday, October 2, 2014. He was born in League City, Texas on June 30, 1935 to Manuel and Beatrice Flores. A longtime resident of the Galveston County area, Charlie was a member of the St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church in Texas City.

Charlie attended Rosenberg Elementary School, St Mary’s Middle School and Kirwin/O’Conell High School where he was a star football running back he also enjoyed boxing in the early 1950’s out of Galveston, Texas as a Golden Glove Boxer. Charlie’s enjoyments were gardening, fishing and spending time with family and friends.

Eventually Charlie graduated high school in the Air Force in 1956,He pursed his Air Force career as part of the air, sea and rescue operation. He was also a member of the Air Force Intelligence Service Squadron in Korea.

Charlie is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers Alex, Americo, Leonello, Ruben, sister Mamie and son Charles Edward Flores. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gracie Flores, his three daughters; Celina Bullock (Wayne), Elaine Zaragoza (Corey Cridland) and Anna Brown (Wes) all of Texas City, and his two sons; Jimmie Flores (Diane) and Luciano Flores both of Texas City. Also left behind to cherish his memory are, his sisters; Minerva Riojas Martinez of Houston, and Delores Gonzalez of Port Lavaca, Texas, his brothers; Frank Flores (Ura) of Texas City, Jimmy Flores (Helen) of Sequin, Texas and Edward Flores (Lupe) of Oklahoma, his nine grandchildren; Shane, Brian, Ashley, Dustin, Heather, Dillon, Raylene, Brayden, and Emily and his five great-grandchildren; Isabella, ‘Lil Brian, Preston, Mia and Jaxson.

Our father was a man of wisdom he had the ability to think and act using knowledge, experience and understanding. He will be terribly missed. The family would also like to thank the Amed Hospice Critical Care nursing staff, Ana, Tammy Rodriguez, Kelly Mahon, Natalie Whitetto, Ann Cox and Dr. Anna Rotkiewiecz for caring for our father.

A Rosary will be held in the Chapel at James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque on Friday, October 3, 2014 at 7:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 2:00pm with Deacon John Pistone officiating.

Pallbearers will be, Jimmy Flores, Luciano Flores, Wayne Bullock, Wes Brown, Corey Cridland, and Tom McCartney. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Zaragoza, Tim Atkins and Charles Peterson.

  1. Charlie was a great man.. I will always cherish the memories of him kneeling side by side with Dustin in that huge garden. How he laughed when Dustin ate that home grown pepper right out of the frigde! He just couldn’t believe it… Dustin will never forget it either, it was just a little hot! I’m pretty sure Dustin drank a half gallon of milk after that. Special times with a special man. My prayers are with you all, as you find as much peace as you can knowing he is finally home.

  6. Uncle Charlie was a wonderful man. He always made me feel like part of his beautiful family. I will dearly miss his smile and his warm heart. I know he is being welcomed in the Kingdom of Heaven and smiling down on us. I hope you all celebrate his life today as I will be reflecting upon my fond memories of him. I pray that those he left behind will stay strong and find peace and happiness in their lives as he would expect you to do.
