AND Celebrating the Life of
Charles Horace Roberson
December 20, 1931 to November 17, 2025
Charles Roberson passed from this life into the waiting arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 17, 2025, in Houston, Texas. Born Charles Horace Roberson on December 20, 1931, at home in Tenaha, Texas (Shelby County). Charles was 93 years old when he stepped into the presence of his Lord and Savior. He was the son of Horace Greeley and Edith Grace Parker Roberson.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, H. G. and Edith Roberson, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Otto and Alice Lineman, his brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Aillene Roberson, his brother and sister-in-law, Chuck and Mildred Roberson, his brother-in-law, Paul Huddleston, and his niece, Cristie Baker.
Charles is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Vancelle (Van) Roberson; son Todd Lindsey Roberson and wife Jill of Georgetown, daughter Carrie Laine Hill, and husband J. J. of League City; grandchildren, Lindsey Brooke Roberson of Austin, Parker Ross Roberson and wife Emily of Waco, Camden Lee Hill, Kylie Marie Hill, and Mackenzie Laine Hill all of League City, his sister-in-law, Nancy Huddleston of Nash, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews and their children all of whom he loved deeply.
Charles graduated from Tenaha High School in 1948 at the age of 16 as his class Valedictorian. He attended Panola County Junior College in Carthage, Texas and Stephen F. Austin State College in Nacogdoches, Texas receiving his bachelor’s degree in Math with a minor in German at the age of 20. He later received his Master of Religious Education degree in 1960 from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.
Charles taught algebra, plane geometry, and general math classes at Gladewater, Texas from 1951-1955, and for a short time in Tyler, Texas from 1955-1956. He worked for Texaco Oil Company in New Orleans, Louisiana from 1956 to 1958 when he sensed God’s call to go to seminary and enter his life’s vocation in full time ministry. Charles served as Youth Minister at First Baptist Church Texarkana, Texas from March 1961 serving until October 1964. First Baptist Church Lubbock, Texas called him as Youth Director from November 1964 to June 1967, when the church asked him to assume the role of Minister of Education. He served in that capacity from June 1967 until November 1976. Charles joined the staff of Northwest Memorial Baptist Church in Houston, Texas (today, Houston Northwest Church) from November 1976 until August 1981, serving as Education Director and Business Administrator. University Baptist Church, Clear Lake (Houston), called Charles in September 1981 where he faithfully served until his retirement in December 1996, serving as the church’s Minister of Education/Associate Pastor of Education. Throughout his years of ministry, Charles was thrilled to help grow individuals and the church through well-trained Sunday School workers who were sharing God’s love and developing disciples.
In retirement, Charles remained an active, invested member of University Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his health prevented him from doing so in recent years. In his own words about retirement, “I have been privileged to live another 25 years, knowing that God gave me good health, strength, some of His wisdom, and some experiential insight, as well as the love of many friends. Psalm 139 now had helped me to ‘know myself’ and to better understand His calling upon my life.”
Psalm 139 begins, “You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.” (verses 1-3) And it concludes with verses 23 and 24 stating, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”
Charles will be missed by all who knew him. Our sorrow is only for ourselves. We know that he has been welcomed into God’s presence and that one day we will see him again.
Services will be held at University Baptist Church (UBC) in Clear Lake at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 6, 2025 in the church’s Sanctuary followed by a reception in the UBC Chapel. UBC is located at 16106 Middlebrook Dr, Houston, Texas 77059. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made in Charles’ name to Children At Heart Ministries, Round Rock, Texas, (https://www.cahm.org/Site/Ways-You-Can-Help/donate.aspx) or the charity of your choice.
The family greatly thanks the staff and caregivers at The Delaney at South Shore in League City for their compassionate care for our beloved Charles and our family during these last days. We will be forever grateful for all that they so graciously provided.
