Bridget Dorn Lynch Hargrove

Bridget Lynch Hargrove, a resident of La Marque, Texas, passed peacefully on April 7, 2025 at the age of 80.  She was born January 30, 1945, in Alexandria, Louisiana.  Bridget was the youngest daughter of Dr. Weldon and Minnie Lou Lynch of Oakdale, Louisiana.

Bridget was fiercely independent, and family lore has it that she insisted on selecting her own clothes from the age of six.  She grew up in Oakdale, graduating from Oakdale High School, where she formed lasting friendships and was actively involved in several organizations, including being Drum Major for the Oakdale Warriors.  She attended the University of South Louisiana in Lafayette, Louisiana.

During her professional career, whether in the Galveston County District Attorney’s office or 212th District court, Bridget took pride in her work and played a key role in every aspect of her job.  In retirement, she enjoyed the antiques and collectibles business.

At home, Bridget was the consummate interior designer and entertained family, hosting many Thanksgiving dinners for her Louisiana and Texas relatives.  Her yard was a special pleasure, especially the flowers, and birdwatching had become a favorite pastime.  When the gold finch arrived in January, she claimed to have more than anyone else in the neighborhood.

Bridget was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Weldon Lynch and Minnie Lou Chittick Lynch.

She is survived by her husband, Matthew V. Hargrove, III, her children, Rachel Hargrove Schaeffer and husband Eric and Matthew V. Hargrove, IV.  She is also survived by 5 grandchildren who knew her as Grammy – Hannah Schaeffer, Jackson Schaeffer and wife Natalie, Luke Schaeffer, Charlotte Schaeffer and Ashlyn Hargrove.  She is also survived by her sister, Jenny Lynch Royer and husband Robert and her children, Swann Royer Van Delden and husband Hans and Daniel Royer.

  1. I got to know Bridget when I was working at the DA’s office while the late James Hury was the DA. She and I became close friends and would lunch often. I am sorry we lost contact after I left the DA’s office although we still had lunch together many times after that. She was the consummate professional and was very well respected. She was always dressed fashionably and took pride in her appearance. I enjoyed having her as a friend and co-worker. She ran the DA’s office with a firm hand and ALWAYS had the DA’s back whether it was Hury or others. Several of us were treated to a lovely dinner at her home and she pulled out the stops. She and I also had a shared interest in antiques. She was a great help to me when I was collecting for my home. I so regret not tracking her down to rekindle that friendship. I know she will be missed by her family and friends.
