Benny Paul Erwin

Benny Paul Erwin, 67, of Dickinson, passed away March 23, 2021 in League City.  Benny was born May 8, 1953 to Peggy and Clarence Erwin in Dickinson.  “What’s not to love about a man who loved his daughter, son in law Kevin and grandchildren, almost as much as he loved sleeping, cigars, cold beer, the Astros, live music and riding his motorcycle. Benny otherwise known as BP, Old Goat, Binkster, Binky, Grumpy Old Postman, Bumpy or whatever you may have referred to him as, graduated from Dickinson High School in 1971. He was active in football, track, and several clubs. From there, he attempted his shot at college, but it wasn’t his forte. He decided to join the Navy in 1973 and travel around the world. His last duty assignment was a radio operator aboard the USS Conyngham DDG17 in Norfolk, VA. He was honorably discharged in 1977. He returned to Dickinson and started working at Amoco. He met a pretty girl named Jo Ann, and in 1982 welcomed their daughter Dyann. Benny loved to take Dyann fishing, hunting, jet skiing, camping, and to Astros games amongst many other special things. He taught her how to boil crawfish and crabs and how to eat them correctly. He shared some of these same memories with his grandchildren Jackson, Hannah and Grady.

Benny was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Jim Erwin. In addition to his daughter and grandchildren, he is also survived by his brother T. A. Erwin and niece Lisa Erwin.

Benny started working at the USPS in 1991. He worked there for 29 years before retiring in February of 2020. He had plans to travel, spend more time with his grandkids, and just enjoy life.

Benny leaves behind friends and family that will love and miss him dearly.  He despised formality and stuffiness and would really be ticked off if you showed up in a suit. Dress comfortably.”

A celebration of his life will be held 3:00 PM, Friday, April 2, 2021, at Crowder Funeral Home Chapel, Dickinson.

  1. Dyann…what a precious tribute to your daddy! I know that his legacy will live on in you and his precious grandchildren. God ordained your daddy’s life and all his days. And God blessed him with YOU as his little girl. So until you meet again, cherish the memories and tell stories to your kiddos. Hugs and prayers dear friend!
