Barbara Ann Hammond
Barbara Ann Hammond, 76, of League City, Tx went to be in the presence of her Lord and Savior on February 15, 2026. She fought a long, courageous battle with cancer and succeeded a few times over the last 10 years; however, after a recent, brief illness, she passed peacefully, surrounded by family, prayers, and love. Barbara was born April 10, 1949 in the coal mining town of Brownton, West Virginia to Emma Elizabeth Sinsel Snyder and Alvin Snyder.
Barbara had fond memories of living in West Virginia as a very young child, with her older brother Donald and later her baby brother Stanley “Stan.” Most of her memories growing up were in Painesville, Ohio where she loved going to school, church, and the Book Mobile when it came to town once a month, which fostered her love of reading. Painesville is where she met William” Bill” Rumbaugh and married. They had 3 children together before she was 25 years old. In 1976, they packed up everything and moved to Friendswood, Texas for a new job, new house, and new journey. They flourished in spite of many struggles. She found new friends in the neighborhood and a new church family at Heritage Park Baptist Church where all three children were baptized. Jesus, faith and fellowship with family and others were always her priorities. Barbara retired after 26 years as a Program Manager – Education Programs for USRA. She loved working at NASA and was very proud of her accomplishments in mentoring her coworkers and students. She was truly an inspiration to many and encouraged and assisted in the success and future of so many. She initiated and actively participated in many prayer groups at work and was considered one of the “prayer warriors.” Barbara loved Easter and Christmas as well as celebrating birthdays, just not her own. Besides her family and friends, her other loves consisted of reading, traveling, music, and the arts. On February 20, 1999 she re-married to the love of her life, Robert Lee “RL” Hammond, Jr. Together, they enjoyed traveling, fine dining, BBQ, dancing, and worshiping. They also thoroughly enjoyed many family weddings, births of grandchildren, and attending all things related to their grandkids. Barbara loved the blended family they created together, as they were her true pride and joy. Barbara had a quick wit and clever sense of humor. She was the true definition of a giver, never wanting for herself and always putting others first.
Barbara is preceded in death by her parents Alvin Snyder, Emma Snyder, and her brother Donald Snyder. She is survived by her loving husband Robert Lee Hammond, Jr.; her brother Stanley Snyder and spouse Catherine Snyder; daughter Cindy Marie Hughes and husband Stacey Hughes and grandchildren Jaden Rose Hughes and Rylan Clark Hughes; her son Eric William Rumbaugh and wife Holly Rumbaugh and grandchildren Callie Grace Rumbaugh and Ryker William Rumbaugh; her son Kevin Paul Rumbaugh and wife Krista Rumbaugh and grandchildren Austin Caleb Rumbaugh and Makena Kaye Rumbaugh; her stepdaughter Janet Hammond Stump and husband Michael “Mike” Stump and grandchildren Michael Hammond Stump and Savannah Elizabeth Stump; and her stepson Charles Russell “Russ” Hammond and spouse Carlos Tapia; and many friends and colleagues.
Service will be held on February 28, 2026, at 3:00pm with visitation at 2:00pm at Crowder Funeral home at 1645 East Main St. in League City, TX.
