Mittie Philen Thomson

Mittie Philen Thomson was born on October 1, 1943, in Galveston, Texas, to Everett and Gernell Philen, and blessed with her younger brother, Everett Philen Jr., a short 14 months later. Raised in Galveston and later Texas City, where Mittie first met her husband, Kenneth Thomson. They were married later in life, from 1990 until his passing in 2008. Mittie was preceded in death by her parents and Kenneth. She is survived by her children, Kathleen Spencer Ergle and husband Tim, Ginger Kieckbusch and husband Kurt, William “Bill” Taylor and wife Anna; her brother, Everett Philen Jr and wife Martha; her sister-in-law, Carolyn Bunker; and her seven grandchildren, Hayden and Grace Spencer, Max Kieckbusch, Jacob, Joshua, Jared, and Ella Claire Taylor. In her final week, she was blessed to meet her great-grandchildren, Logan and Tyler Hatchell.

Mittie graduated from Texas City High School in 1962, where she was active in the band. She served as secretary at Calvary Baptist Church in Texas City and at Galveston Memorial Park, where she later served as a board member.

In 1993, Mittie and Kenneth retired to San Augustine, Texas, where they enjoyed farming and ranching, specializing in tomatoes and apples. She loved sharing ranch life with her grandchildren, introducing them to her miniature horses and donkey.

In 2009, Mittie moved to Dickinson, Texas, to be near family and her beloved lake. Her strong faith was evident to all, as was her love in studying God’s word and listening to hymns in her car or kitchen.
