Howell Ray Puckett, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2026 at his childhood home. He was born on January 18, 1953 in Texas City, Texas to Howell and Wilma June Puckett of Bacliff, Texas.

Howell, better known to his family and friends as Ray, was the firstborn of four siblings. Quiet, thoughtful, and patient, he was a natural leaders and someone his brothers and sister could always look up to. As his parents aged, Ray did not hesitate to assume caretaking responsibilities- dedicating himself to fulfilling the values he placed on being the eldest son. While Ray never had children of his own, he loved his nieces and nephew dearly and was always an active figure in their life.

Ray was a selfless person who was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need – whether family, friend, or neighbor. He gave of himself freely and never hesitated to be there when someone needed him.

Ray had a deep love for the outdoors and nature. He enjoyed solo traveling to state parks, family camping trips, fishing and hunting with his brothers, and photographing the beauty around him.

Ray also held a lifelong passion for classic Ford cars and hot rods. He enjoyed collecting and working on cars, often sharing this passion with his brothers.

His interests reflected the things he valued most – family, time spent outdoors, hands-on work, and enjoyment of a simple life.

Ray is preceded in death by his father, Howell Puckett.

He is survived by his mother, Wilma June Puckett; brothers Michael David Puckett and Alan Duane Puckett; sister Valerie Ann Puckett; nephew, John Alan Puckett; and nieces, Heather Laurel Cash and Jessica Leann Puckett.

A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Hayes Grace Memorial Park in Hitchcock with Pastor Wes Owens officiating.
