Mavis Place Fields

Mavis Place Fields, 96, resident of Dickinson, Texas went to be with our Lord on April 4, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones in her home. She was born in Nottingham, England to parents Albert Place and Wilhelmina Newton Place on August 14, 1929.

She grew up during World War 2. She met the love of her life, Frankie Fields, unexpectedly during a baseball game between the American GIs and a local British team. Knowing it was rationed during the war, he  brought her a box of Hershey chocolate bars and that simple gesture was a beginning of a lifelong love story.

Mavis boarded an ocean liner in April 1951 to travel to America alone and begin a life with the man she loved, a marriage that lasted 65 beautiful years. While as a wife of a career US Air Force serviceman, she worked as a bank teller in many parts of the country where they were stationed.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Fields, her parents and three sisters.
