Herman Gonzales

Herman Gonzales was known by many names. Some people called him friend, son, brother, dad, and pawpaw. On July 14th at the age of 82, he passed away peacefully surrounded by the people he loved. He was born on April 24, 1943 to Reyes Carmona Gonzales and Atanacio Gonzales. He was one of eight brothers and had two sisters.

He was very proud of his family and would share pictures and videos every chance he could to show his heritage and the people who he loved. At the age 21, he proudly served in the United States Army for two years. He would continue to be proud of his service to his country and provide support as well as would continue to reach out to thank others for their service over the years. In 1970, he started his career as an operator with Amoco Oil in Woodriver Illinois and then was transferred to Texas City, TX in 1981 and continued to work at Amoco Oil until retiring in 2004. Anyone who knew Herman knew he had a servant’s heart and would serve others quietly, not wanting recognition, just wanting to show others the pure love that Jesus had shown him.

His faith was an important part of his life and he was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Texas City TX for 24 years. He was always ready to give a prayer, a meal, a helping hand, or the shirt off his back to help others in need. If you knew him hopefully you were blessed enough to receive his weekly phone call check ins, his holiday calls, and his birthday reminder calls that probably saved us all a time or two.

One of his greatest treasures in his life was his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Herman Gonzales had three children, David Gonzales, Jennifer McCullough, and Reyes Mosley. He loved them with his whole heart and loved taking them to different places when they were little to create treasured memories. Herman was also able to live out those memories with his six grandchildren; Katie Gonzales, Elizabeth Fisher, Ashley Pratt, Jonathan McCullough, Anna McCullough, and Sara Mosley. He enjoyed taking them on adventures to the movies, McDonalds, or the park. He just loved spending time with them and treasured each moment he was able to spend with them. Lastly, his four great grandchildren Logan Gonzales, Angelina Gonzales, Liam Pratt, and Myla Pratt.  He loved every chance he got to see them and could find all their pictures on his fridge with the rest of the people he loved. To know Herman Gonzales was to have a friend. His kind heart has created a legacy of loving others the way Jesus needs us too. No praise, nothing in return, just pure love.

Herman was preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers; John Gonzales, Pete Gonzales, Richard Gonzales, Frank Gonzales, Joseph Gonzales, Tony Gonzales, sister Consuela Gonzales, and son David Gonzales.

Herman is survived by his daughter Jennifer McCullough, Reyes Mosley and son in law Justin Mosley, his sister Juanita Cruz, brother Felix Gonzales, granddaughters Katie Gonzales,  Elizabeth Fisher, Ashley Pratt, Anna McCullough, Sara Mosley, grandson Jonathan McCullough, numerous nieces and nephews, and many other friends and family who he loved and cherished every minute with.

This is not goodbye for Herman, although gone from earth he is living his heavenly life with our Lord and Savior. All who come to know the father will be saved and will have eternal life. What a treasure knowing we will see him again.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he died, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” John 11:25-26
