Frank Bankston for NewspaperFrank W. Bankston, Jr., of Texas City, passed away at home on Sunday, November 29, 2015. He was born in Galveston, Texas, on March 25, 1933, to Idella and Frank W. Bankston, Sr. Frank was a member of the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne and a former member of the Golden Gulf Coast Racing Pigeon Club. Formerly of Galveston, Frank had been a resident of Texas City for nearly 37 years. He dearly loved his wife Annie and his family and was known for having “a unique gift of gab” and fondly called “Pretty Poppa – Best in the World.”
Frank is preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Annie Ida Bankston, two daughters; Terry Bankston and husband Glenn Skinner of Jonesboro, AR, and Cristy Smith of Bacliff, two sons; Steve Bankston of La Marque and Dan Bankston and wife, Megan, of Texas City, two sisters; Barbara Jean Douglas and Vida Hughes both of Santa Fe, seven grandchildren; Christopher Herring, Sr., Jeremy Smitha and wife Katie Alpizar, Erin Pruns and husband, Jason, Jennifer Smith, Christopher Bankston, Kahla Bankston and Michael Bankston, three great-grandchildren; Christopher Herring, Jr., Brayden Benard, Kaitlyn Pruns and one on the way; Baby Pruns; as well as numerous precious nieces, nephews and their spouses and special relative, Gary Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2015, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque. A Vigil Service will be at 6:30 pm with Deacon David Bowman, officiating. A funeral service will be held at the James Crowder Funeral Home in La Marque on Friday, December 4, 2015, at 11:00am, with Deacon Sam Dell Olio, officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Galveston, Texas. At Frank’s request, his grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. I have such fond memories of visiting with Cristy at her parents house. The homing pigeons and coloring easter eggs. Your dad, and mom, contributed to you being the wonderful persons they raised. Many prayers to you all.
