Sherman L. Irish of Pearland, TX, passed away on February 15th, 2026, at M.D. Anderson Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Texas City, TX to Sherman M. and Margie O’Neal Irish on March 11th, 1951. He spent his early years in La Marque, TX, where he met his best friends and always remained close. He was a graduate at La Marque Highschool with the Class of 1969. After attending College at the University of Texas and Sam Houston State University he spent the majority of his career with The City of Houston. He rose through the ranks to Deputy Assistant Director of Public Works. He was a licensed Real Estate Inspector of Residential and Commercial Properties in and around the Pearland area, where the Irish’s lived and raised three great children. Sherman helped coach many teams from 1987-2000 at the Dad’s Club and YMCA basketball.

Sherman is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman M. and Margie O’Neal Irish; sisters Sue-Ellen Fuell, Sharon Kimp, and Sandra Berry.

Sherman is survived by his wife of 44 years, Denise Irish; daughter Natalie Irish, husband Dennis Bateman; sons Elliot Irish, long-time partner Laura O’Connor, and Martin Irish and wife Holley; brothers Steve Kays, wife Mary Janelle, and Stan Irish; numerous nieces and nephews; and friends.

There will be a memorial service held at a later date and time.
